Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I feel like I have two distinct "peaks" during the day. One is mid-morning, between about 10 AM and 1 PM. Then I get tired and either take a brief nap, or ingest some serious caffeine. Either way, I'm pretty much useless until 8-9 PM, then I'm on my second peak until around 1 AM. I usually sleep from about 2-10 AM, if I don't have to wake up before then for some reason. This works out great for me, because I naturally wake up around the time that I am most productive, so I am able to roll out of bed and start the day on a good note.

I used to work morning shifts, from about 7 AM to 3 PM roughly, which sucked. I was chronically late, exhausted, my focus was even worse than usual, and it was just not a good set-up for me. I had a hard time staying awake on the clock, and I spent my hour-long lunch break sleeping every day. I never even got to eat lunch because it was eat vs. sleep and I was so exhausted, I always chose sleep.

The problem was that my work schedule was in total conflict with my natural sleep cycle and peak hours. I was having to wake up at 5:30 in the morning to get to work (sort of) on time, but my natural sleep cycle is pushed back so far that I physically can't fall asleep until between 1-2 AM. I tried absolutely every trick in the book, but I was never able to move my sleep schedule back. The earliest I was ever able to fall asleep was around midnight... but even that was only giving me about 5 and a half hours of sleep, which is not enough. So I'd come to work exhausted, and couldn't even perform well during my peak morning hours because I was so tired from not sleeping enough the night before.

Now I'm working evenings and it is SO much better. I'm getting a solid 8 hours of sleep every night because I don't have to wake up early for work, I'm able to sleep with my natural sleep cycle instead of against it, which means I'm much happier and more productive when it counts.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

Could I ask people - what type of adhd are you and then are you morning or night? (pi, combined etc)

I really can't deal with mornings, I'ma zooooombie and can't think properly which I thought was more common for adhd because of not being able to regulate properly? I. E if we are happy we are extremely happy, if down we are very down... So if tired we are very tired? .

Night Time I just get a wakeup spur , so pulling allnighters is easy! I'm also the combined type.

I've had the exact same experience. No matter how I tried, I would always come home and finally crash for a couple hours around 5 or 6. Of course this wrecked any chance of getting to sleep at a reasonable time that night.

My schedule was roughly-
go to bed at 2:00
wake up at 6:30
waste two hours when I got home from work trying not to fall asleep
Fall asleep at 6 out of sheer exhaustion
Wake up at 8:30, watch tv
Go to bed at 2:00

It was awful! I had no life outside of work at all, my free time was mostly spent trying not to fall asleep.

I would have loved to have had meds back then.

I can handle jobs that start at 9, but absolutely no earlier. I do best with jobs that start at 11 or later.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I have always been a night owl. Was chronically late to school and jobs that started early when I was younger. Have always been most alert, creative, etc....from about 10pm and on. I still am a night owl by nature, but have to fight it with meds. I work a 6am to 230pm shift. (it is important to me to be home when my kids get home from school) I have to take Trazadone/Melatonin to sleep and recently started Wellbutrin to help me wake up and stay awake. Before the Wellbutrin, I was napping on every break/lunch as well as after work. And was still exhausted all the rest of the time that I was awake. Crossing fingers that it continues to work!

I sooo look forward to staying up late on Friday and Saturday nights It is such a struggle to fight against what my body "naturally" wants to do.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I'm a "morning person!" Since that is when I go to sleep?

I've always seemed to naturally go to bed as dawn is breaking and wake up around noon when the sun beats me down like a sumo wrestler. I'm very stubborn. I don't like to go to sleep and I don't like to wake up; doing either tends to be a chore.

Nothing to add to this except "ditto" - Seeing as I am typing this at 3:23am and I woke up at 11:00am this morning. Good thing I am self employed other wise I probably wouldn't be functional or as functional.

I am getting sleepy but I have to be up early and getting up isn't an option - I have a sick kitty who needs to see the vet and the best time to call and get in the same day is early morning

Trying to stay awake by drinking so much coffee I have to pee isn't much fun either. The caffeinated bathroom trips keep me going and going and going - Holding fearful feral felines does not gel well with frequent bathroom urges!

Keep hold of that kitty. My cat knows when I have scheduled a vet´s appointment and promptly disappears.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I'm a night owl. Mornings are horrible for me. I normally wake up with slight depression or negative mood. Takes a good hour to come right. The only reason I go to bed before midnight is because I need to get my child off to school in the morning. If I have deadlines I'll often work till 1 or 2am and even later if it's the weekend or school holidays.

I could quite happily work all night if I know I can go to sleep afterwards and sleep until I wake. (not gonna happen)

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I am mostly good in the mornings from about 0700-1300 and mid evening from 0800-1100. Anything outside these hours and my brain cells begin a party of their own without inviting me.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I have a period between about 10 am and 11:30 most days where i am on top of my game. Then when we have lunch i become zombified. We go home for lunch and if i do not watch it, i will go to sleep in the chair watching tv. If i do that, i am screwed. I will feel like crap the whole rest of the day. I take my first med at 8 am most days, the second one at 12 or 1, and if i remember it, the 3rd one at like 4 or 5.

So i will be tired in the afternoon and then kind of perk up maybe for a little while, or maybe not, but usually i can function. By 3 pm, my tore out knee is hurting and i want to go home. I usually intend to go home and make supper or do laundry, but often i come in and watch tv, eat candy, sleep in the recliner, or just kind of sit there and space out.

At 5 my husband gets home and is hungry, so i either make supper, suggest we have takeout, or get pissy and tell him to f off.

Usually about 7 or 8, i will suddenly wake up and it is the best i have felt all day. I can actually clean and get stuff done. Sort of. Or i can waste this lucid period staring at a wall.

If i work a night shift, like i am the next two days, everything gets screwed up. As usual when i have to work 12 hour night shifts, i woke up bright and early at like 7:30 am. On normal days, i can barely get up and drag myself to work. Another time i wake up early is on weekends, when i could sleep in. Or if we are going on holiday. I will be extremely excited and wake up at 4 am. LOL.

The most productive time of all is if it is a weekend i do not work, from about 9 pm til 1 or 2 am on Saturday night. It has to be Saturday though. Friday night i am always exhausted and want to go to bed at 10 pm.

So i dont know. I have weird periods where i am good at various times, but generally i am sort of a night owl.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I am mostly a mid- to late-morning/mid- to late-evening person. But I have been and could still be a night owl if I don't take meds. I also sleep better on meds because my "crash" (if you can call it that) just happens to hit shortly before I actually SHOULD be going to bed anyway.

Before meds this is what would happen to me. I could have been up all night, no sleep, semi-zombie through the day and then POP! Wide awake and not tired at all the next evening about 6-7 PM, and then go to bed at 11 PM or midnight. It just hits me all of a sudden.

Have you considered that you might have food allergies? I do, and the same thing happens to me. If I avoid certain foods (like wheat) it doesn't happen. It also helps if I keep my portions small, big meals in the middle of the day really knock me out.

Re: Are you a morning or evening or night person?

I dont usually eat until supper time. I am normally not hungry for breakfast, and usually not for lunch, either, but if i am, i dont hesitate to make a sandwich. Unless i am just too lazy to. It is possible i have food allergies. I worry about it. My older brother is allergic to gluten.

Now because i have to work 6 pm to 6 am tonight, i have been meaning to go back to bed and nap, because i do not work much at our business anymore on days i have to work nights. I used to. I would work 8-5, go home and shower and work 6-6, but anymore, that kills me. I am getting old. Unfortunately i have not made it back to bed. I will make it there about the time my husband comes home for lunch, so that will wake me up.

Because i need to go to sleep i am unmedicated and spazzy beyond belief. I have about 20 tabs on the computer open, I have been playing video games and on face book (we also call that "nosybook" lol) and playing youtube songs. If my knee wasnt hurting i would be up dancing around. I have a tremendous amount of energy right now. I am very wiggly.

I always thought when i was younger and in better shape i should make a workout video of me cleaning the house. I would always blare music and dance around. In and outside, up and down stairs, and dancing around when i vacuumed and stuff. The only problem was i wasnt graceful. It was just a bunch of random spazzed out dancing around and singing and jumping. If anyone had watched me they would have thought i was coked out of my mind. My husband and kids just got used to it. He still, if we are going to clean, turns the tv off (because if it is on and i go in there, im done) and puts on music.

Any time i eat a big meal it makes me sleepy. Digesting must take a lot of work.

Do you ever notice if you eat like a really big supper, you wake up in the morning starving? That is the only time i eat breakfast. I did the other day because i had to take a continuing ed class and my stomach was growling. It is like if i am sitting still, i get hungry. That class was HELL. 2 days of sitting there having to be quiet and try to listen.

Sometimes when you are in a class, do you ever think the people talking sounds like the teacher on Snoopy cartoons? I do that. We had to watch a movie, it was like 15 minutes is all but i was afraid i would go to sleep. I consumed candy, a breakfast biscuit, 2 energy drinks, pop, tea, and my medicine and still i wanted to die the whole time.

Sometimes is fun if you are in a class and everyone is being all serious and quiet, to imagine them pooping. That makes me laugh. Or their sex face. When someone is boring and annoying i like to imagine what expression they make during sex. My husband says i stick my tongue out a little to the side and my eyes roll up, but i think he is lying and he hasnt taken a picture of it.

Have you ever eaten a pomegranate? Because i want to try one.

I dont know what i am talking about right now everything is crazy in my brains. Sometimes it is like my brain's exploding! Wheeee! How exciting! I desperately need to take my meds or else go to bed.
