New here :)

Hello.
Thiago 20y/o from Brazil.
My doctor was considering I could have ADD, so I started taking Ritalin 10mg/day (right after the breakfast) as a test during 5 days, according to what my doctor has prescribed. The results were kind of relevants (I became talkative, a happier person and stimulated), but I thought it could get better and as the doctor told me I could increase the dosage to 20mg/day (1 pill after the breakfast and another one after lunch) past 5 days, so I did.
I've notice during the last 2 days while taking the medicine that my concentration has increased a little, but not that much... I'm happy w/ the threatment 'till now.
I would appreciate some advices.
Thanks!

Welcome.

That is a interesting approach your doctor is taking.

I would ask for a referral to see a psych just to confirm your diagnosis.
I'm not saying it is incorrect but rather medicating to test it is not something I've heard of with adhd.

Re: New here :)

Hello Nick, thank you.
Well, actually the basis of my diagnosis wasn't this test, I guess I didn't make it clear as my english isn't that good. This psych is also my therapist and I've taken about 10 sessions 'till he considers this possibility. He gave me the ASRS-18, and another questionary regarding my behavior to my mom. So, considering all results of this test, the knowledge he had about me during these 10 sessions, he thought it could be ADD. As methylphenidate is a specific stimulant to this disorder and I'm responding to it, it's showing that I may clearly have it.

But Nick, that's my 5th day taking Ritalin 10mg twice a day and I fell like I'm not the same stimulated I was 'till the 2nd day taking 10mg 2x a day, or till the 7th day beeing threated w/ Ritalin. Actually I'm sleepy. Do you have any idea what could it be?

I appreciate some advices.

Thanks.

Re: New here :)

There are other factors to consider.

Sleep. Stims need sleep to work properly.
stress. Stress causes lack of focus
Not eating properly. Stims need protien and not carbs.
Caffeine is no good with stims.
Make sure you drink lots of water too.

Oh, thank you for these infos.
Actually I didn't sleep well during the last night, so...
Is there any kind of diet for stims users?
Any thread regarding this or any other topic regarding what should I do to help the medicine work properly?
Thank you in advance.

Re: New here :)

Check the ritalin thread.

There is no specific diet. But Protien activates stims better. Carbs and acidity and vitamin c slow down absorption.

Must people eat an hour before or after medication or take it with tums.

Everyone is different so it is a bit of trial and error. Don't give up though and remember it is a process.
