Can members ask moderators to close threads?

Can Opening Thread Posters ask Moderators to close their older dormant threads, with the intention of creating a more up to date OP thread topic/discussion?

Re: Can members ask moderators to close threads?

If you have an existing thread on a particular topic, the best thing to do would be to post to that thread with the new, updated information you want to add. If you want to focus on the new information, you can indicate that in your post.

If the thread is really old (as in, no new posts for a year or two), you can just go ahead and start a new thread if there is some new information you would like to discuss.

Our guidelines discourage individual members from starting multiple threads on the same topic for a couple of reasons: because it crowds the forum and could be considered "spamming", and also because it can get confusing when people reply to one thread and another thread by the same OP on the same topic appears.

Re: Can members ask moderators to close threads?

Closing the old thread in a situation like that may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Please PM the mods with a link to the old thread and the OP of the new thread.
