43, Male recently diagnosed ADD

Greetings board members. I've joined the forum here to see how everyone has been experiencing, and dealing with, ADD. I've recently been officially diagnosed (more on the inatentive side, rather than hyperactive) and am now taking Vyvanse daily to improve focus.

This has been somewhat of a shocking revelation as I've gone my whole life not knowing that this is a very real condition that's been affecting me. The stories I'm reading about other people diagnosed late in life have hit me hard - I can relate to them well. Fortunately I've managed to live a successful life with ADD symptoms. I have a great family, two girls, an excellent career (that has had some turbulence and is somewhat stunted), and enjoy many exciting and creative hobbies.

My specific symptoms prevented me from being an obvious ADD type, until about a year ago when my therapist first flagged the possibility. She isn't an ADD specialist herself (I was seeing her to work out some other life issues) but recognized some tendencies worth noting.

It took me a year to read up on ADD, its symptoms, and effects on my life before I decided to seek out medical treatment. So far I'm very happy with my treatment plan, and look forward to seeing how things play out with better focus.

Cheers everyone!
