Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

I'm a woman diagnosed with ADHD Combined Type. I was prescribed Wellbutrin 75mg twice a day to start off with by my psychiatrist. I've been taking it for a week now as instructed and have had no reaction to this medication, no positive or negative effects. I know this is an antidepressant, I've never suffered from depression in my life, but my doctor claimed it had worked well for adult ADHD.

Is this something I should contact my psychiatrist about or should I wait the 3 weeks until I see him again?

Has this worked effectively on anyone that has ADHD, but not depression?

Would appreciate any advice on how to move forward, I'm a newbie.

max dosage is 300mg(some people use 450mg ) , maybe dosage isnt enough but stimulants are firstly prefered for ADHD treatment.
Yes you should wait at least 2 weeks , anti-depressants need time show efficacy
I think , you should ask your doctor why he didnt chose methylphenidate or amphetamines as first choice?

Re: Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

Bupropion can have a minimal effect on ADHD.

Get a new psychiatrist who understands the disorder and understands what first-line treatments are.

Without any other information, based on what you have presented, your psychiatrist seems, at best, incompetent.

Right now, two things are being wasted...your time, and your money.

Cheers,
Ian

yes, it does help because it's a seratonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine reuptake inhibitor sit touches a lot of neurotransmitters. It;s generally stimulating as well.

Bupropion acts as an norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI). It is also an antagonist of the nicotinic receptors.

That said, serotonin is not involved.

Re: Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

I took Welbutrin generic for almost 6 months before getting the ADHD diagnosis. The main thing it did for me was its effect on my clinical depression and anhedonia....but once my head was clear I started to notice the ADHD stuff more and more. Ritalin has had an additional effect, but not as much as I thought initially. I'd like to try dex sometime.

That said...I wouldn't expect Welbutrin to be very effective for just ADHD.

Re: Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

Some people who cant take stimulants take wellbutrin. It is not considered a first line treatment for adhd and I would ask your doctor why he or she is trying a second line treatment for adhd first instead of the other way around.

Re: Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

If you combine wellbutrin with amphetamines or methylphenidate you would get best results in my opinion.
I have used wellbutrin&concerta combination for 1.5 year and i was really satisfied.

Re: Wellbutrin/Bupropion doesn't work on ADHD?

I tried to take Wellbutrin and Adderall and I wanted to unzip myself from my body and run! It was terrible!
