Smile 'ita ~ Norway

I'm 'ita. I'm 17 and just recently realized I might have ADD.

I have always been extremely shy. In elementary school I was the quiet girl. I used to hyperfocus on my homework. I had morning headaches which would last the whole day and mom had to drag me out of bed in the morning - literally. The worst though, was the fact that I couldn't understand how everyone else got through school without feeling completely exhausted.
In 9th grade, I collapsed. I had this weird mental fog and couldn't even fill out multiple choice questions no matter how hard I tried. My mind would just constantly drift somewhere else!

My best friend who has ADD combined type was the first one to joke about me having ADD. Now, a week later, there is no more information I haven't already read online. My psychologist hadn't thought about me having ADD, but I made a pamphlet-like thing for her which she found very interesting I'm not the typical "daydreamer". I went more OCD-like to make up for my disorganization. It made me extremely tired mentally, but it worked for - 8 years.
...

I start testing April 16th. I feel like, if I actually have ADD, my whole life would make sense. If that makes any sense?
Anyways, I just wanted to say hi!

LOL~~
My mom doesn't have to because I don't go to school at the moment. I bet she's very thankful for that She usually nags me about actually MOVING out of the bed after waking up though, as I tend to go on my laptop to check my mail and then forget to get dressed

Hi 'ita, and welcome! :-)

Reading through your post, I am compelled to ask if you have ever been evaluated for sleep apnea, or other sleep disturbance. Several things you mentioned hit right on the spot! Do any sleep issues run in your family, as the structure of your palate can contribute, among other genetic tendencies. You may have some sleep related issues, and not even be in the slight aware of it, and because you are so young. Morning headaches, and daytime exhaustion can make ADHD even worse. It's something you might look into or ask your evaluators about?

I've never been specifically evaluated for sleep disturbances, but I was evaluated in elementary for my headache. Brain scans, doctors consultations... They concluded it to be migraine, but the tablettes I got didn't work and my headaches started to fade away after that. They went away completely when I changed schools.

BabyPin, you might just do a search for ADHD/sleep disturbances. They fall into several categories including apnea, obstructive airway, snoring, etc. Just what you said in your first post knocked me to share with you. Your evaluations for headaches may not have even gone to sleep issues. Sometimes phsysicians get stuck in a rut and don't look "out of the box." Read all you can about ADHD and the "causes" or things that can make it worse. Dealing with them and/or eliminating them can make ADHD much more manageable if there is something else you can work with! Some individuals have spoken about treating sleep disturbances and having to take less meds, and doing much better mentally after eliminating the exacerbating factors. DS, who is 14 now, for him, he is genetically inclined towards sleep apnea as he gets older and his palate sets in shape, so I did some reading on it. Hid dad and grandfather have it terribly. (Obviously, by the ruckus at night.)

Also, to get on my soapbox, it's good idea to get a good physical with lab work as well, to exlude exacerbating factors such as glucose levels, thyroid, hormonal, or other serum levels out of normal range.

Oh, and I also have OCD. If I could pick which other thing to tag along besides my ADHD, I'd pick OCD anyday. I always think that it is a great coping mechanism, as when I make ADHD blunders, the OCD kicks in and puts systems in place. Is that what you do to?

I don't snore or have restless sleep though. Isn't those sleep apnea symptoms? I sleep pretty heavily once I fall asleep. It's getting my thoughts to shut down that's the problem...
I'm getting a full physical too. I've already got the appointment. The problem is that I have a terrible needle/shots phobia. My doctor tried to give me three Serax to make me calm and sleepy - I just got incredibly hyper

Yeah, through elementary my room was STERILE. I couldn't sleep if something out of place. I don't have the concentration to go all OCD anymore and my room is a mess

OCD does take a lot of energy! I found as I get older, and more on my plate, I am less anal about some things. Good luck with your evals, do keep us posted! You are on the right track.

Thank you
It's kind of weird, but I've been sick for three years and now I'm really excited to get tested. The waiting is horrible. Can't wait to actually get started!
