Re: How many jobs have you had?
I've had 5 jobs:
KFC - 7 years part time from age 14 Tee-shirt factory which I stayed at for 2 days before deciding I should go to uni Bank - 6 years until they fired me because I was held up. State Government - 11 months until they fired me coz I couldn't work on the counter (due to having been held up at the bank) Federal Govt - been there for over 3 years now. Anyone got the formula for winning lotto??

Re: How many jobs have you had?
I've had over 50 jobs from age 16-32. Name it, I've probably done it. I figured out that unless it's legal, medical, science... I can fake experience. I have many times. Oddly enough, I'm smart enough to not get in over my head. I've never been fired, and only once was I passed over after a face-to-face interview.
I worked at a cable company selling advertising. I was completely frustrated with the dept. that created photo commercials. They were slow and quality was sub-standard. So, I started making my own commercials for half price, on the side. I used windows movie maker, and had no design background. I panicked when one commercial was up for an award...except it wasn't in company files! EEK! Thankfully, the client was a friend and backed my story that he made it. This venture was a violation of my contract. Now if I could focus any of my skills..................

Re: How many jobs have you had?
5 jobs in the past 5 years, all middle management type with well known companies in their industries. Fired 3 times, last two times were very tough to deal with put me in rock- bottom which led to self-diagnosis and therapy. Now that I know my case I look back and I say they had all the right to fire me while on probation. I was a mess, always late and I had no idea at all.

Re: How many jobs have you had?
I hope it is not a bad thing that I am reviving a semi-old thread...
I have had 9 jobs so far, in 5 years... I guess that's not too bad, but it seems high to me... higher than anyone my age that I've talked to, anyway... -A dollar store (pt, 6-8 months or so) -Fast food (pt, 1 year) -Newspaper printing factory? (2 months - 12hr shifts, 14 days on/4 days off... worst job ever...) -Large retail store (*1st time around, went back later* / pt, 1 year) -Home improvement store (fired / ft, 1 year) -Retail (pt, 4 months) -Front desk receptionist (ft, current / 3+ years) -Pizza delivery (pt/nights - 4 months... got lost easily, so one day I just called in & quit... it was also here that I learned I needed glasses for driving at night, lol...) -Large retail store (2nd time - returned to this job, pt/nights, to pay credit card bills...yowza / pt, 2 years now) My main/ft job, I believe I have only kept because of who my boss is (to me). Family member. The guilt that hung over my head due to that fact alone (me sucking at the job, making him look bad, almost being fired by a family member on multiple occassions...that kind of stuff), it is what drove me to find a "reason" for all of it... which lead me to ADHD-i. My second/pt job, I know the only reason I have kept that one is because of the job itself. The job is easy, and I personally enjoy it. But not many people do, because of the hours required, I guess (5am every Sunday morning, late/long hours during the holidays). The team requires 6 people... so far only me and one co-worker have stayed there longer than 6 weeks. No one else that they hire stays - and I know that is the only reason they haven't fired me. The job is easy, but it requires extensive knowledge of what you're doing - anyone can do the job, but it's not the kind of job you just walk in and automatically know. It requires training, it usually takes 3 months on average to make someone completely comfortable with the position, or confident that they can handle it on their own (without any questions). And because of that, they haven't found anyone to replace me, and the job itself HAS to get done, there is no way around it. The reason I know they want to fire me is because I am always late. Been back there 2 years, 2 months - average maybe 20 shifts a month - probably late at least 15 of those shifts. I've been written up once... company policy is 3 write-ups for anything is an automatic termination... so they don't write me up because they can't get rid of me. I'm know if they could find someone to replace me, they would have gotten rid of me a long time ago.... but they can't. I talk about that like I'm proud of that lol. I'm not. But the environment (now) at that job currently sucks, I used to care about it more, but that was when I had better supervisors surrounding me. They've all since moved elsewhere (diff departments/stores), and people who are unfit to be in management have taken over their positions... they don't make the environment a pleasant place to work. Since I have (in my mind) no reason to give a damn, I just don't. I used to work my *** off for my old supervisor - 14 hour shifts, 7 days a week, 45 hours a week at my part-time job were not unusual for me. At one point I had worked 143 days straight, combining my two jobs & the shifts I worked, I hadn't had a day off in that amount of time. With my new bosses, I've gone so far as cutting back my availability - two nights a week only, wont stay past 10pm, and Sundays 5am-11am. There were times I used to work until 6pm on Sundays (and I always start at 5am) for my old boss - but I don't feel that my new one deserves that, so I abruptly stopped that once she proved to me she didn't deserve it. ... shutting up ![]() |

Re: How many jobs have you had?
Haven't had too awful many jobs, but I'm still young (24). Hope that when I complete my degree/grad school I can settle on a career I enjoy without too many changes.
I didn't work in high school, because my parents insisted I focus on school (which I didn't appreciate at the time, but am incredibly grateful for, now). First job was at a group home for adolescent girls as a "mentor" (Some of them were the same age as me) Quit when I found a better-paying job. Worked at a halfway house/domestic violence shelter (overnights/weekends) but quit when I started practicums for school. Did a bunch of internships, but don't count those as employment (although they look nice on a resume) While finishing my 2-year degree, I was hired on at the local children's museum while doing an intership there.. Worked part-time for about a year. First "grown-up" job was as a head start teacher. Worked for about a year and a half. Now, I work with foster kids and bio families.. been doing this for about 15 months-plan to continue at least until I get my bachelors. Going to school full-time now.. Still no clue what I want to be when I grow up. |
