Recent Desoxyn prices?

I noticed that some of these threads are a bit old, so I will start a new one.

I was recently prescribed Desoxyn, as I find that both dexedrine and d-MPH have too many side-effects (unfortunately, pemoline is no longer available). My question is, how much are you guys paying to fill your Desoxyn scripts? The dose my physician prescribed is 20mg/day, although my pharmacist is asking me if 100 tablets is ok (as opposed to 120), because evidently Desoxyn comes in lots of 100, at over $400/bottle. I have good insurance, but I do not know how much it will cover.

Hopefully, the drug will be worth it, but it seems a bit unreasonable for such a simple compound that is likely very inexpensive to manufacture.

How did you get a prescription for desoxyn? I'm just curious, as I seem to be on the same path. I've tried and like dextroamphetamine, and focalin, but I wish there was something more potent in terms of CNS effects.

I checked the price of desoxyn recently to try and decide if I can afford it, should I try and get a prescription. It does seem unreasonable for the amount of effort put into manufacture. I guess we should feel lucky to even be able to get such a substance legally in the USA, so it's not such a big deal to me. Plus, I'm fortunate in that I respond to very low doses (but only get so much benefit) from stimulants I've tried, so I could afford desoxyn in the dose I would likely need.

I self medicate ... didn't know it until i was busted for possession and the long to short of it is I was diagnosed in the top 1/2 of 1% of adhd.

I've tried every med and they all as someone mentioned have their very undesired side effects ... none of which I experience self medicating.

The dr is cool, he listens, and he of course wanted to try other things first I was like: hey I don't care what it is ... just so it does for me what the meth does.

we're now on the last of a long line of meds some of which I wouldn't wish on my enemy let alone not.

Using it I can and have accomplished things that were before ... totally out of my realm of possiblities.

The whole situation sums up the medical industry in a nut shell, they find something that works but because it is a popular drug .. (because its so easily made .. so the price is rediculous but still cheaper than on the streets) and if ritlin or adderall were as easy to make and meth was as hard to make as ritlin etc, you'd see the stigma attached to ritlin or adderall and not to meth.

It seems to me however that the opinions are slowly changing and they should be. I've tried them all and for me ...meth, desoxyn, whatever you want to call it ... does all the good things without leaving me feel like a zombie, or irritable all the time ... or any of the other side effects that come witht the other stims.

Well, I found out, and its going to be roughly $300 (290 something) for a bottle of 100 5mg tablets. I'm going to buy it this month, but unless it is truly a wonder drug, I will not buy more in the future.

Based on the structure, racemic amphetamine is likely easier to manufacture than illicitly made methamphetamine, but I guess people don't find it as abusable.

This whole thing sounds like a waste, but I will try it this month. Fortunately I don't take my meds daily, so it could potentially last me a while.

crap.... $290 something for 100 tablets and you have insurance? Sounds like your insurance isn't covering it.

I have BC/BS and they require prior approval for many medications (amphetamines are one of them). If I go via mail order I can get a 3 month supply of any brand name medication for $35.00. I get my Vyvanse and Provigil this way, each in 90 day supplies.

Hi. I use provigil too, but had to stop because assistant program ended. I was wondering if you would be willing to share with me the name of your prescription mail order? I've been looking but am reluctant to order from India or elsewhere, in case the med is not what it's suppose to be.

There should be an updated chart listing all the countries where each ADHD med is available

Just to get an idea of the difference insurance can make, I remember the novel antipsychotics I used to take costing $15/pill without insurance, $1.30/pill with insurance.

when it comes to prescription medication, i'm glad i don't live in the US

here in australia, the federal government subsidizes the cost of vital medication. so for me, the cost of a script of dex (i take 60mgs a day, which works out to be 3 bottles of 5mg tables or 300 tables per month) is no more than $30 AUS.

$2.90 for 5mg IR, In 1999 15mg SR tabs cost $5.77 ECH!. i spoke to a fellow who needed 4, sometimes 5 a day! If you want to be one of two countries in the world with legal medicinal Methamphetamine, you pay the papertrail that goes along with it.

I can't believe it. I have Blue Cross too and want to switch to Adderall XR or even better VYVANSE! What did you have to do? I already get prescribed Adderall IR generic and Ritalin, but thats insane you only pay 35/month. TELL ME MOOREEE!!!!

I was recently prescribed desoxyn and my insurance covers it (with pre-approval).

Count - 180 5mg pills
Cost with insurance - $30
Cost without Insurance - $770 (you can probably find this cheaper at Costco or Sams)

I went to Walgreens and they had to order the medication from the manufacture, but there were no issues getting it filled. It just took longer than normal. I will say this, desoxyn is by far the best medication I've tried for adhd, I've had zero side effects. It "allows" me to focus, it doesn't force me to focus which can lead to over-focus. It also controls my impulses better than adderal.

List of previous meds with effects (in case it's helpful):
Metadate CD - Irritability, headaches, controlled impulses but didn't help with focus
Ritalin - Same as metadate
Adderall IR - Irregular Bowl Movements, cotton mouth, loss of appetite, controlled impulses but didn't help with focus
Adderall XR - Same as above but it also slurred my speech and created a zombie like state
Vyvanse - very mild cotton mouth, better (not great) focus and controlled impulses but created a brain fog. I think my dosage may have been too high.

I will say this, Desoxyn is a very expensive drug and I hope a manufacture will produce the generic form when national health care passes and more people can request it (and more doctors will prescribe it). Even if I didn't have insurance I'd gladly pay the full cost for the prescription. The benefits have been amazing.

*Edit* - Also, most company sponsored insurance plans will cover the drug since there isn't a generic form available. You'll have to get pre-approval (it's meant for people under the age of 18) and if your doctor has a documented history of trying at least 1 or 2 other drugs they can't deny you. Good Luck

does NY medicaid cover desoxyn? they cover adderall, focalin, ritalin, and dexedrine, but does anyone know if like affinity managed care under medicaid covers it? cuz if they dont, even if the dr prescribed it to me, i wouldnt be able to buy/afford the prescription
