Question Alternatives?

I've been on Strattera since sometime around the beginning - middle of September. I have to get off the medication now becuase it's started giving me severe bloody noses and increased blood pressure. (was like 136/100 this morning at the doctor's office)

I have not wanted to get on stimulants, but I'm not sure what other altneratives there are in the U.S. for treating ADD. I've used Welbutrin in the past, but it made me pretty angry and the seizure possibilities really freaked me out.

So, I'm wondering what other alternatives I can discuss with my psychiatrist tomorrow.

Any thoughts or input would be great.

Thanks!

Re: Alternatives?

ehhh, sorry for the late repley
as far as I know, ADD treated with 2 kinds of medications:
1.stimulants
2.anti depresants
so you ask for another anti depresant?
unfortunatly, stretera is the best anti depresant for ADD, but there is also Edronax, its weaker, but can help too!

Stimulants have bad name, but NOT everything is true, I never knew someone who got addicted to his prescriptions, you should consider this as an option(unless you were addicted to coke or meth)

Re: Alternatives?

You could try to talk to your doc about getting a beta blocker so your blood pressure won't be so high and maybe try a low dose of a stimulant..try things out before calling quits.

Re: Alternatives?

Thank you!

I just started on Provigil yesterday. 50mg yesterday and today 100mg. Doc said I should titrate to find the "right dosage" as he has some folks who do well on as little as 25mg.

I'm also keeping pretty close tabs (probably obsessively) on my blood pressure since Provigil can affect blood pressure, too.

So far, so good.

Thanks again. That's definitely an option if the Provigil doesn't do the trick.
