Back to Ritalin, going to try LA next

Hey all,

My medication journey has been a lot of trial and error. The only one that has worked for me so far is ritalin IR.

I am currently on concerta, but it doesn't help with focus and concerntration. I don't know why, after all it is the same active ingredient.

The doctor is going to try one last dose of concerta, and then if that doesn't work then move me onto Ritalin LA.

My question is for Ritalin LA users. Have you found this medicine to be as good as Ritalin IR? Did concerta not work for you but LA does? What problems have you guys encountered on LA that you didn't on IR?

I'm scared that Ritalin LA won't work either and that I'll just have to pop Ritalin IR all day long. If Ritalin works then is LA more likely to work even if concerta doesn't?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Back to Ritalin, going to try LA next

Im currently using 20mg of ritalin SR, the doctor said it works for 5hours but for me it works just for 2 and half or 3 hours maximum which is way too short!
so I was also thinking of trying the long act one or see what can I do to make it work atleast x4 times longer
Im very new to this and Im just on my first month so just shared here my little experience

Hi Stefan,

There are various forms of ritalin. The only one that has worked for me so far has been Ritalin IR.
Ritalin LA is supposed to last 6 to 8 hours.
Concerta lasts 10 to 12 hours. Although for me concerta has not helped my ADD. Different doses have resulted in different moods, but all with insomnia.
The next thing I'm going to try is Ritalin LA 30mg. I hope it works like ritalin does and isn't crap like concerta.

It may take you time to find the right medicine. I know it's taking me forever. I really do hope that I respond to Ritalin LA like I do regular ritalin. This whole meds search thing has been going on for so long and I would love some finality.

I'm surprised to hear people not responding the same to various extended-release formulations vs immediate release. I'm currently on Methylin IR 10 and 15mg (2x day), and the dosage I'm at works wonders, except largely due to my fast metabolism I'm very lucky to see it work for 90 minutes... average time from onset to wearing off is 60-90 minutes.

I was going to ask my nurse practitioner next month about trying me on a single dose of an extended release form in addition to the doses I already get, because its just ridiculous how quick the drug wears off.

Hi Sekaijuu,

I didn't respond well to any extended release formulas, only the instant release Ritalin.

I spoke to the psychiatrist about it and he said that everyone is different.

Best of luck with your trials. It's a good idea to try different formula's etc under the direction of your doctor to find the med and formula that works best for you.
