Re: Adderall in UK

Hi i know this is an old post and that i have been away for ages but i just wanted to say thak you this discussion has given me some motivation to continue to push for adderall, i have been trying for a couple of years and basicly being treated a drug dealer, if i got it i would sell it. I see that people who use it get the benefits i wish for. I have been on methylphenidate for years and while it helps slightly with my hyperactivity my focus etc seems to get worse.

Re: Adderall in UK

Hi -

Yes, this is again a redundant question, but...

I've just moved to London to work for a year. I take Adderall, and have a prescription from the US.

Can UK pharmacies fill a US prescription, or would I first have to go to a private doctor to get a UK prescription?

Another question: Can I have my doctor fill my prescription in the US and ship it to me? I'm wondering if their are restrictions on importing a controlled substance, and unfortunately, I can't find any information on this.

Any ideas?

Think the answer is most likely no, I'm not 100% sure, but since it's a controlled substance it's unlikely.

Yes Adderall is controlled and you will not be able to legally ship it to the UK without lots of paperwork, costs and process. That is why Adderall XR costs around £9-£10/capsule (I guess that's about $16 US), since the importers pay heavy duty and admin in bringing it to UK. Ironic when it's a UK company (Shire,) than actually makes Adderall in the USA.

Re: Adderall in UK

I have now moved to London, as a part of my work, however, I don't know anything about the health care system here. I read previously that I would have to go to a private gp to get a script? Or would I have to go to a private psychatrist? If so can anyone recommend me one? I have moved to central London. Does the pharmacy by Marble Arch still exist?

Hi globalflight and Stace (or anyone in the UK and/or greater London areas who can provide insight on this issue),

Can you provide any additional information about the channels you went through to obtain your Adderall XR scrips in London? I am an American expat who has just recently run out of my prescription from back home (I came over with about 10 week supply, which I somehow managed to stretch to almost 6 months), and am attempting to figure out how to go about procuring the drug here. globalflight: which pharmacy in South Ken did you use? Are either of you still using Adderall XR? Has there been any difference in price here in the UK since generic Adderall XR came out?

As far as Iím aware only brand name Adderall XR is available, which is around £16 per cap from Bliss pharmacy, and £10 per cap, plus shipping from Ashdons in Brighton.

Make an appointment to see Andy Zamar at the London Psychiatry Centre, he is a good guy and if you have ADD will consider prescribing Adderall off licence, but you will have to see him every month for a consult at £240 each time, plus the £300+ per month on meds.

Indeed they are, but I have now switched to Dexamfetamine IR which I find much better than the Adderall XR, (although would choose Adderall IR if the option was there).

And that is a bargain £6 per day (6 x 5mg tabs), but still half the price I was paying.

How would you compare the two? Care to share?

I get dexamphetamine IR on the NHS.

Before medication my blood pressure was too low actually, so I'm hoping that I'll be okay on it.

As Inattentive hyper-focussed ADD, I went private and tried Ritalin, Concerta and Dexedrine before I found Adderall which was the only med that came anywhere close to the activation/motivation effect I was looking for. I came off Adderall (60mg/day) about a year ago due to heart tachycardia but the £15/day cost would have been a long term issue too. Since then I have tried to reproduce the effects with supplementation:
  • Tyrosine - was OK a minimal amount of energy
  • St John's Wort/5-HTP - these effect Serotonin and just make me sleepy, not surprising as boosting Serotonin suppresses Dopamine which is the opposite of what we need with ADD
  • N-Acetyl Tyrosine - this is far better absorbed than Tyrosine and much more effective and definitely closest to Adderall for motivation
  • DMAE, DL Phenylalanine, Phosphatatidyl Serine - all give some kind of kick/effect but didn't address my Inattentive ADD much
  • Magnesium, Zinc and Vitamin B - amazing difference to mood, almost eliminated my low grade depression (dysthymia). Seems most ADDers are deficient in these critical minerals, I am taking high levels: 800mg Magnesium and 150mg Zinc.
  • Multi-vitamin and multi-minerals - Good for overall health and hence energy
  • Macuna Pruriens - Just started on this "fuzzy bean" extract. Contains L-Dopa that some claim does not cross blood-brain barrier but I and many others don't agree. Seems to affect deepness of sleep too, with more dreaming. Depressed people don't dream enough according to a BBC2 Horizon documentary on Dreams this week.
  • Galantamine - Meant to improve memory, can't remember what my memory was like before I started taking it!
  • Magnolia Extract - Helps lower stress without making you sleepy, I think most ADDers are too stressed and stress screws up immune system and wellbeing
  • Gingko Biloba - Does seem to make a difference to memory/concentration
  • Lots of other supplements still under self-medication review....
Overall I have not achieved either the mood elevation or the activation/motivation I had from Adderall but I have improved a lot through supplements. I not interested in increased focus because I hyper-focus easily, in fact Dexedrine made me hyper-hyper-focus, which was awful, so I have not researched supplements for this.

Adderall did give me the biggest motivation boost but it also physically stressed my body, I lost a lot of weight too rapidly for my liking (over 50lbs in 6 months) and then had heart problems. Ironically the magnesium may well have fixed my tachycardia now. Supplementing with Zinc and Magnesium has made a great difference to my mood and Acetyl-Tyrosine/Macuna seem to help with activation a little.

I now realise that no ADD medication or supplement will truely "fix" all my ADD challenges, they might help a little but the rest is about understanding and working with who and how I am.
Hey @InTheMoment, I appreciate this post brother, itís really informative and Iím going to try a few of the supplements. You say youíre taking 800mg of Magnesium and 150mg of Zinc though? Is that accurate? The Recommended Daily Allowance of Magnesium is nearer 400mg and Zinc js 10mg. So thatíd mean youíre taking twice the recommended amount of Magnesium and 15x the recommended amount of Zinc?
Would appreciate a response if you can, although I see youíve not been on here for a while :-(

I know! Lol
It says he was online last year though so you never know? He might get an email saying he has a reply on here?
Do you think the supplements he mentions might work well with Elvanse which kinda heightens my anxiety and depression? Wonder if he tested each supp out alone?
