Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I touch everything. It dosing matter what it is, I have the uncontrollable urge to touch it. I can actually hear those mouse sound things. Low background noises really push my buttons as well. Go to go, my dad is yelling at me to help clean out our garage.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I have always joked that I choose my clothing based on feel/texture first, then color (certain colors bug me) then style or fit.

I have super-crazy sensitive feet. Socks must be just so as far as material, seams, etc. I hate wearing socks unless it is cold. At the same time, I hate hate hate getting stuff stuck to my feet when walking barefoot. I will lurch to a stop in order to brush my feet off.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I can sense polyester a mile away. Well, maybe not exactly, but I can tell when something has polyester in it. Manufacturers try to disguise their polyester as satin, which is only the texture, not the actual fabric. I'd rather wear a rough dupioni silk than a smooth, polyester satin.

Acrylic -- I'd rather go naked.

I think a lot of it for me is the breathability. Even just a touch of a synthetic blend repels me.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

Soft textured fabric is definately my "oooh shiny".
I love fabric and yarn stores and have collected boxes of fabric just cos I really like the texture and think I'll make something out of it. Never happens though.
I cannot stand synthetics though, my faves are cotton and bamboo.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

So glad I found this thread! (that was not aN intentional pun.... )

I'm the same. Really sensitive to textures (and smell). I've always tried to hide this. I LOVE soft stuff. when home from work anywhere, I put straight on my snuggly clothes. Can't relax in clothes with restrictions! In fact, tight clothes bit of a prob for me esp on my legs, drives moe NUTS as in I try them on and then have to tear them off before I go crazy with the feel of it.

Sleeping when its warm is hard because like others have said, I need a bit of weight on top of me, and I cover even my head when sleeping (will have a little air hole if not too cold....). Can relate to what... I can't find back who said it, sorry, that if don't have heavy blankets might float away! Can sort of sense my edges under a heavy blanket and feel more like I know where I am

Anything like tags, itchy wool, tight wrist bands/waist band, one sock shorter than other etc will drive me nuts all day.

maybe the ladies will relate...but I found it took my so damn long to get used to wearing a bra, I HATED IT!!! And still do most of the time, can't relax properly with the damn things on. Tying up my hair so its pulling somewhere also drives my crackers.

I was the kid who touched EVERYTHING. Even when that damn sign said 'do not touch' I could not resist. Also I like to sniff things ooo I love the smell of certain things you see, but also, its like to get the sense of something (like a purse in a shop or something) I want to feel it and sniff it. If no one's looking I would be happy to also rub it on my face!!!

I do try to resist this. Its not really ok to go into a shop and systematically make your way around the shelfs touching every single object. And you tend to get evils from the owners too..... And of course picking stuff up that is breakable? well I;ve broken a fair few shop things in my time

at night I lie on a folded really soft blanket on my pillow. I LOVE flannel fabric, cotten, fleece - I wear pjs, opposit to a lot of you guys, I can't sleep WITHOUT pjs and really soft fluffy socks. But the pjs need to be uber soft, no scratchy/tight bits, no underwear/ bits sticking into me. I tuck my pj bottoms into my socks or the gap will drive me nuts all night.

I never understood how people didn't mind buying food that was packaged so you couldn't smell it? and then I try resist sniffing fresh produce because it doesnt look too great..... its hard for me in a store to not handle fruit and stuff and feel it and sniff it before buying it. I try resist (hygiene!).

I love love love the feel and smell of wood polished wood. And beads yeh, every bead in a shop I'm giving a little squeeze.

My sense of touch and smell seems too strong. Its good cause I really enjoy stuff, but can be bad in that certain smells are intolerable to my, or make me nauseous, can't ignore filter them out.

Same for touch. Like tissues. I find them really hard to handle. I thing its the same reaction some ppl have to cotton buds/ nails on a blackboard. If someone is wiping dry sticky stuff with a tissue I go nuts, its like the teeth in my mouth ache.

I don't like silky stuff. Especially what is probably fake silk where the back of the fabric has a different texture and if you rub it the textures feel horrible. I can be going along touching stuff and its all lovely until something I touch feels HORRIBLE! Like sometimes a fleece looks nice, you go up to touch it and whatever way the fabric is made its sort of squeaky/nasty.

I also find jeans really hard to wear. You can get super soft ones somethimes. The are just really hard and stiff and thick and I feel trapped in them.

Some towels feel horrible too and I can't touch them. Or certain scrub sponges. I don't like velvet because when you run against the fabric it feels horrible. Holding dry dry wood, like the dry wood on a icelolli I can't stand either.

I lik squeezing something in my hand, or just, I want something in my hand to feel and squish and fiddle with. Or to stuff up against my face. This could be the figeity restless thing though.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

Yeh, I forgot to say why I hide it, I guess I've always felt all that is something to be ashamed of. A secret in my that is bad and weird and really really CHILDISH. Its hard being an adult, or even an older child, who likes textures like that... people don't approve

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

My husband is always telling me to stop touching everything in the store. Sometimes I feel like I can't see it properly until I touch it
I hate stiff or silky fabrics, tags on my neck drive me crazy, I don't like wearing a lot of layers or bulky clothes, I like my shoelaces done up super tight and can't stand if a sock starts to slip into the shoe haha. I don't like dangly earrings, watches and I redo my pony tail constantly - I'm with you yellowflowes, I can't stand that tiny bit of hair pulling from somewhere I know this is not very green but in summer I still sleep under my doona (comforter/duvet) and turn the air conditioner on.
Im also sensitive to smells, I can't be in the room when my husband is cooking with a frypan or on the BBQ. As a kid I remember yelling at my mum that she had to turn the car air conditioner off because the air smelled funny haha oh what a pain in the *** I was... or am

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I'm 90% sure I have sensory processing disorder anyway but I even annoy myself with touching things. Hair and fur is the main thing. I'm terrible with looking after pets but I can't stop touching them if they're soft... like cats... or furry blankets... I have dreadlocks but the ends of them have started straightening out a little and they're so silky, I have to backcomb them or knot them so I stop obsessively touching my hair.

Even as a kid I liked hair... and eyelashes. Everyone thinks they're rough but they obviously aren't stroking them right. Adults used to get annoyed at me for touching hair and eyelashes too much.

But I'm also hypersensitive to tastes/sounds too... usually in bad ways

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

i really like soft clothing and bedding etc, because of my co-morbid dyspraxia a lot of clothies and fabrics irritate my skin or make me extra wriggly (f**king adhd) so i like soft things for sure.....im also 23 and still sleep with a comfort blanket by my face >.<

I can't wear bras at all. Thank the gods I'm very flat, I have no idea what I'd do if wasn't. They make me feel like I can't breathe. I'll wear them for interviews and what not, but they make so uncomfortable, it's awful. I have no idea how women manage to wear those things every day.

Ditto on the hair thing too.

Sports bras all the way here.

Stretch cotton is such an improvement over the stiff cotton ones I wore

in high school, or the horrible rubber ones I wore after that.

I swear they were rubber! Horrible things!

NO underwires ... EVER!

I have to wear a bra, gets more important the older I get.
