Time and Computers

Does anybody ever wonder where the time goes when they are on the computer or just in general? I run from one website to another and never accomplishing anything. than I wonder where all the time went. I do this with trying to organzise myself or really doing anything. It's start to drive me nuts.

Re: Time and Computers

I do this all the time. I spent most of the day doing it, flipping between the same few sites, looking for something to change or something new to happen. I don't know why I do it either, it's obviously procrastination but I can't figure out why I need to procrastinate.

Re: Time and Computers

I definitely do that too! It's especially hard because I live in my own room at college so there's never anyone yelling at me to get off the computer (like at home). The thing I've found that helps is to use a computer in a noticeable spot in the library because then I get embarrassed when people can see me flipping through facebook/my email/etc. for hours and that motivates me to get back to work.

Re: Time and Computers

lack of stimulation. We crave stimulation, and the internet provides it. This is the reason so many ADHDers are addicted to the internet. We crave stimulating topics, articles, and videos that cannot be provided in real life. It is also the reason we suck so much at small talking.

Well I had a short drive so I am already nuts. This describes me to a T. I can spend an entire day on the computer and accomplish absolutely nothing. The only reason I work is because I don't get on the computer before hand because I know myself better If I turn on the computer in the morning I will never get out the door.

I am always on it when I should be in bed sleeping - umm like now My preprogrammed excuse is I am off tomorrow but sense I work Monday I will have to find another excuse tomorrow morning when I find myself on line at 4:35 am!!

To me it is like a wandering discussion I get on the Internet to pay a phone bill , but first I want to check and see if my mom got her e-mail Then I see a response to a thread I am in that I just have to respond, Afterwards I spot a game in chat I am playing Oh I think I will just run by facebook right quick to see if my sister had been on-line today ect . . . . . it is like following bread crumbs that never lead any where

Three days later I still haven't paid the phone bill ;matter of fact with in fifteen minutes of turning the computer on I can completely forget I even have a phone bill to pay.

Crappy time perception plus inability to stay on task due to . . .

I just go to two forums back and forth not accomplishing anything. I really don't look up news articles or shop online. I don't watch videos. I feel like paying for the internet is a waist of money. I don't even watch much tv.

Really? I thought it was just me. HATE small talk. So boring! Maybe that's why I'm so darn private and guarded. Any personal information you let get out just leads to more small talk and it Never ends! You can't escape unless you are rude, so I'm cryptic and evasive!

Couldn't have said it better myself. Word for word what I am feeling.

I don't know why I do many of the things I do. Why I procrastinate daily for well over a month to finish organizing my place, even though it is the #1 thing on my mind that is bothering me to no end until it is done. Why I lose motivation after just a couple hours of doing it and go back to the computer, only for it to take me several days again to get any motivation to start again.

I think I have been addicted to the computer and the internet since I first discovered it over 10yrs ago. It's been hard to say because my work has always involved working on the computer and internet, but most of the time I am just slacking off and distracted from productive activity and just surfing or researching or reading or online shopping or watching videos and shows, etc. So most of my day is unproductive, and then I find the whole day is gone again and I think it will be better tomorrow. But it never is. How do you not let yourself get distracted when tempting distraction is a habit and only a click away!

It would be easier if I didn't need my computer and the internet for work, then I could just turn it off and disconnect from it, but I can't. I have to gain self-control and all. I always think, I'll just check my email again, or I'll just check this thing out real quick for the next 20min and that's it. But one thing always leads to another. Within a few hours my desktop is covered in downloads and links again that I have to create yet another untitled folder for to shove inside the other hundreds of untitled unorganized folders, just so I can see my desktop again. I must have 10,000 saved links or more. I just can't keep up with all of the information I want to know and all of the things that interest me, and all of the information overload, etc. And then the lines blur and I forget what is productive use of my attention and reading and what is not productive, until someone asks me what I did that day! Turns out - nothing! I get perplexed too, what did I do this week? How can a week pass without doing anything? How is that possible? I must of did something, but I don't remember what it was! This Ends Today!

Re: Time and Computers

I can tell you what I do when I have no internet available... I might get bored... I don't deal well with being bored.

what would I do without the internet? read more books probably, or watch more tv, I'd probably find something else to make me feel satisfyingly engaged and unable to let go.
