Re: Time and Computers

I work for an Internet company. Did you know that average time on site is a key metric for content sites? Companies run carefully controlled experiments to optimize it and other variables that represent the 'stickiness' of the site. In other words, there are people out there getting paid to try to make you procrastinate more.

Re: Time and Computers

I lived in Nevada about 10yrs. I wasn't into gambling at all, couldn't understand the urge. I had more fun sitting at the bar and watching the faces of all the people having so much 'fun'.

Then..a new fangled slot machine made it to our teeny town. It played a funny tune...and I swear,I could be eating in the cafe on the other side of the casino, but as soon as I heard that tune I had a sudden desire to throw some money away.

Went 2 Vegas 4 New Years and was sicker than a dog. My brother went out and lost $100 bucks. Lol I think I'll return and seize the moments and prey on little brothers sitting at the BlackJack table holding their pee.

Re: Time and Computers

I think you're mistaken. I play checkers and chess on the computer and the computer always wins. It used to beat me at Xs and Os but I kick it's *** now - even the 6x6 version. One day I will beat that damn computer at chess as well. I get a kick outta knowing that the program I play today was probably the same one Gary Kasparov lost to a decade ago.

Re: Time and Computers

I can organize my time better if I just close my browser. Like that'll happen. It takes way too long to recover that many tabs.

I do feel like, lately, that I'm not getting as much stimulation as I need, which leaves me feeling burned out

The "pseudo-ADHD" thing someone mentioned earlier has been frustrating for me, because I've had a couple friends try to convince me that all I'm dealing with is internet addiction.

And every time I think about that, I start wondering if I'm really experiencing what I think I'm experiencing, or if I'm just inflating what I do online to my entire life.

Re: Time and Computers

I do this all the time!
When I first mentioned to my mother that I think I have ADD she like laughed at me because she said I spend all day on my computer so I cant possibly have ADD.

When I am on the computer time flies I go on and I feel like its been 10 minutes, when really it has been an hour or more! I always so Im going to get off and do something, but then I see something and I rad that and I see another something and I look at that and before I know it another 2 hours have flown by!
