Did a web search - they don't make them in my size? Too expensive for me.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I went to bed bath and beyond for the first time ever a while ago....

The security guy started following me for about thirty minutes till I left the store. But there towels and blankets are so freakin awesome. I was almost like a kid in a candy store rubing every towel, blanket and sheet. Its definatly attributed to the touch, hearing, and smell sensory atributes of my adhd.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I require my fabrics to feel yummy! I can't stand clothes that aren't soft or silky... hated working in the corporate world cos it was so hard to be comfortable... (EFF pantyhose!)

And yes, high thread count sheets, squishy soft pillows, yada yada... As I type this, there is a pile of 5 (FIVE!) soft blankies stacked in a cubby nearby, and those are just the beige ones! I have been known to buy clothes that don't even come close to fitting me because that's the only size they had and I couldn't resist the fabric...

Once, for Christmas, a good friend of mine had bought me a long sweater jacket that she just knew I'd love. When I opened the gift, she kept exclaiming about how happy she was to have found something so soft for me and I just had to smile and nod as if I agreed, but... well, it looked good, but it felt awful! I suppose a lot of people might define it as mildly soft, maybe (??), but to me it felt like burlap. I didn't have the heart to tell her... But at least I can layer it over stuff in the fall and it doesn't have to touch my skin.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

The softness fetish extends to my own skin, too... cannot stand letting it get dry or rough. I don't even like shaking hands with people who have rough, calloused hands. Never consciously thought about it before, but even my partners tend to have nice skin.

I'm a tactile freak, really. When I was a kid my mother used to leave me at home (or in the car) rather than take me shopping cos I always had to touch everything. To this day, if it looks the slightest bit inviting I have to make a beeline for it, even if I'm on an urgent mission for something else. I hate it when the packaging keeps me from getting my grubby little hands on it!

Part of all this comes from ADD of course, and therefore being pretty intolerant of clothes that annoy or distract me (tags, itchies, tight elastics, etc), but part is also just that I'm a very tactile person. I carry no shame or embarrassment about it. I think I get the same sort of pleasure from things that feel nice that others might get from, say, looking at art they admire. I just look at delicious fabrics to be one of the pleasures of life, same as delicious foods or anything else.

I refuse to wear jeans in the house. Or shoes. I wear mesh shorts or something.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

Who DOESN'T love soft fabrics? P:

As long as it's not itchy/scratchy/too warm, the texture of clothes doesn't bother me one way or the other, but I have to have soft blankets/sheets to sleep on or I am so uncomfortable.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I have always had a love for pantyhose. I can remember as a young boy liking the soft feel of pantyhose. Accidentally touching a foot covered pantyhose while sitting in a circle around a teacher/adult reading stories in kindergarten/first grade. I never put the like of the way pantyhose feel to a sensory relationship to ADHD. I just thought I was weird LOL

Cool Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

I have been into soft things forever, when I w a child I use to take my fathers cotten and use it to tickle myself, when I got older, i bought fleece clothing of which I now have an obscene amount.

Re: Anyone else really, really into soft fabrics?

Yep. Ever since I was a baby I have carried around a blanket with satin edges. Now as an adult I still sleep with a blanket that is silk on one side with silk edges, and the softest fabric on the other side. Since I was a baby I have absent mindedly rubbed my fingers/ finger nails actress the satin... and across my cheek. Sensory thing, huh, had no idea, lol.
