Re: What If Einstein Had Taken Ritalin?

There has never been any proof that Einstein had ADHD, I view it as a myth.

Re: What If Einstein Had Taken Ritalin?

I once found cool children's book on Einstein in thrift store called "Odd Boy Out". I bought it for my son (who was totally disinterested in it) but I found it to be fascinating. He stacked cards repetitively as kid. He had temper tantrums. He was shunned by peers. His parents allowed him to roam free and talk to strangers (my son is no Einstein but he does loves to run free and talk to strangers too). He did terribly in subjects he was not interested in and barely made it into college. He was told he would not amount to anything. He came up with his greatest discoveries in his spare time while working as a lowly patent clerk. From those beginnings, he went on to become one of the greatest minds in history.

As far as the original question goes...I think it's kind of silly to try to answer. Not only is everyone is biologically different the social acceptance of drug use is vastly different as well, and their context within society. Using a bad analogy, would Freud have been more brilliant if he didn't use cocaine? There was a time when it was acceptable for Scientists intellectuals to use these substances. The idea for me is just too complex to untangle.

The takeaway for me regarding Einstein is that he stressed that Imagination was his greatest asset. If something stimulates your Imagination, then it is good. For me that's usually picking up a guitar and a cup of coffee.
