Similes are great, and I suppose they could be incorporated into the rule. However, the rule of threes has a different purpose. Check out the example below. Does it make sense dreamin?

Daydreamin loves helping people, enjoys being social and has fortitude.

1. loves helping people

2. enjoys being social

3. has fortitude

ADD can destroy relationships, hinder career success and rob the individual of self-esteem.

Re: Using the rule of three in writing

I found the suggestion helpful; the replies are funny and apt; and my attempt is inadequate.

I don't think your attempt is inadequate.

The spring season warms our souls, induces growth among the plants and trees of the earth and reminds us that fresh starts exist.

Re: Using the rule of three in writing

(It's an interesting "rule", because it can be applied in a very straightforward way - where all of the three elements are in parallel construction and have equal weight - but also in a way that's either "more nuanced" or "less elegant", depending on your point of view. I think when one of the elements is expressed differently from the other two, it's almost always bigger and almost always placed third.)

People on ADDF are welcoming, helpful, and (if you give them a chance) likely to change your perception of yourself and the world around you.

Why is this funny, why is this thoughtful, why is this sweet?
