Do you believe that in our lifetime retirement will be till 85 years old

Do you believe that in our lifetime retirement will be till 85 years old and we'll live longer. Recently I've been reading some medical articles about how we'll live longer in the future due to some medical breakthroughs we'll be experiencing and I am 25! Isn't it a miracle and a strong reason to be optimist about?

Living in a country that still cannot provide affordable medical coverage to all its citizens excuse me if I am less than dewy eyed at the prospect.

Doubly so since we have difficulty gainfully employing citizens who are just short of our present retirement age.

I sincerely doubt I will be capable of working until 85. I just don't even want to imagine the hoops of getting disability in my seventies.

Seeing as how I can't save money for anything, much less retirement, I will be forced to work until I drop dead.

That will be for people with access to good medical care and a job that doesn't destroy their health at an earlier age. I don't think being able to work into our 80s will become the norm in my lifetime nor yours.

Nor do I think of this as any kind of desirable goal. We are not machines.

Perhaps we will have introduced a technology driven resource based economy by that time and minimising employment becomes the goal instead of maximising it.

I think the only time I will not be able to work is when I'm dead. I have work addiction problem.

Re: Do you believe that in our lifetime retirement will be till 85 years old

yes i think so. i don't think there Will be enough young people to pay into the pension fund. So unless there is a huge overhaul in our economic model i think the government won't have a choice but to increase the pension age. In the UK it's gradually creeping up Anyway.

A possible answer would be to increase immigration but that won't be popular with a large part of the population.

in the UK, kids who are Born now are expected to have an average life expectancy of about 100 years though sadly that won't include my generation and definitely not me. I think I'm going to pack in way before that. I would.nt mind working till 85 as long as I'm healthy and my job is interesting and not too stressful. Well exactly what i need now as well.

Re: Do you believe that in our lifetime retirement will be till 85 years old

I seriously doubt that the mainstream population would have the capacity to work until 85. Yeah sure some people are capable but most aren't. I work with a lot of people who are older and to be honest by the time they're getting into their late 50' / early 60's they've just had enough. I can understand where they're coming from. I guess it also depends on what kind of job you're doing. Farmers seem to be able to work forever but office workers can't.

When I wrote it, I meant cause I read some interesting articles about how science is getting advanced and it will make people live longer So since we have retirement limit 67 years old we cat be surprised that after 50 years miracles can happen.I see it as a miracle, siince all of you dont want it
