Recently diagnosed ADHD and need a doctor to get meds

Hello, this is my first post on this forum! Ok, I have recently been diagnosed with ADHD. It is such a relief that my ADHD symptoms can be managed with treatments such as Therapy and Medication. Any how, my physiologist told me to go see my physician to get the meds that I need. The problem that I have is that my primary care "doctor" is in fact not a real doctor but a nurse practitioner; and she is unable to prescribe me the medication that I need. I have called different doctors in my area and when I am asked for the reason I want to make an appointment, the receptionist tell me that their doctor cannot prescribe that type of meds to new paitents. I had one tell me that she cannot accept my insurance simply because it is under affordable car act here in the US. How funny is that!!!

Anyhow, do you guys suggest that next time I call, I should instead tell them that I need a check up just to see a doctor? I wonder if any of you guys have had this kind of problem before.
I need 30 Mg of ritalin just to let you guys know exactly what I need

Re: Recently diagnosed ADHD and need a doctor to get meds

If another doctor told you to see another doctor for meds then you need a report with recommendations from this doctor to show the new one. No doctor will prescribe meds based on patients request. And as far as I know an np can prescribe narcotics right?

Re: Recently diagnosed ADHD and need a doctor to get meds

My sister works for that very same NP. She told me that the NP cannot prescribe such medications. Maybe here in Arkansas, NP's cannot prescribe medication.

Anyhow, I finally found a solution. being that my mom cannot speak English, I took her to a doctor in a city that is about 45 mins away to translate for her. After he was done asking questions about my mom's condition, I told him about the problem I was having. He gladly listened and told me to get the medical records from my psychologist. Then he said that I need to make an appointment then he would be glad to prescribe me the meds.
