Re: All disease is preventable

So - will repeat -

ALL disease (consider those areas that pharmaceutical companies feltch around in order to make money) can be prevented.

But you will still die - just not after a life of pain.

The only large jump in logic - comes through identifying (as described above) - the mechanism of taming the cell cycle by knocking the de novo purine/pyrimidine synthesis on the head.

Pro-inflammatories [IL-1 receptors on all cells of body apparently leadign to TNFa] -> Triggering 'growth' ... ... ...

Endotoxin/LPS -> triggers IL-1 -> TNFa -> DHFR -> Growth

1. PAMPs (processed food) in food + Environmental toxins (non-organic food) -> leaky gut + No soluble fibre in diet (lose protective gut biome layer)
[all described in post above]
--->---
Endotoxin/LPS -> triggers IL-1 -> TNFa -> DHFR -> Growth

Processed food preference (comfort food) (glutamate / sugar / starch)
--->--

That's the quick version.

All data is consistent.

Re: All disease is preventable

Okay.../guilty...I read VERY little of this thread. My brain's just not into it! lol sorry!!

But from a personal perspective...I tend to believe in what you have to say.
I think all of the most major (physical) medical isues I've had were within my control to prevent had I lived a healthier lifestyle.
My 2 bouts of cancer.
Sleep apnia.
Diabetes.

These things could've been prevented had I not smoked, lived a more active and healthy lifestyle, and made better eating choices.

So yeah, I didn't read much here...but from what I think you're saying...I agree with it on a personal level.

There's really nothing intrinsically wrong with people.
The environment breaks us.

:-) The summary is in the post above.

Quote from Richard Peto - 30% cancers attributable to smoking and currently 40% cancers attributable to obesity. Both wholly preventable if people were happy and no corporation with their marketing orcs - were trying to convince us - that we're ever so attractive if we smoke.

Re: All disease is preventable

That's interesting - all of this has been known for years.
Quote:

By far the largest reliably known percentage is the 30% of current U.S. cancer deaths that are due to tobacco, although it is possible that some nutritional factor(s) may eventually be found to be of comparable importance.

They're *the* heavy hitters.

Tooth decay existed long before wealth and refined sugar.
Quote:
Tooth decay existed long before the dawn of M&M's. Archaeologists regularly find signs of tooth decay (and painful tooth repair ) as far back as the Neolithic period, about 9,000 BCE, when humans began to shift from hunting and gathering to agriculture and grain-eating. Starches in the grain and other plants led to tooth decay. Before this, in the Atkins-diet era, tooth decay was rare.

Re: All disease is preventable

Once again - categorically - moral man within moral society has not been attempted yet.
So there are no precedents.

Less immoral does not count for anything.

So - we've a hard capitalist world currently in which jobs are hard to find and houses are unaffordable - life was easier just 30 years ago - maybe ??nicer?? too - but we weren't looking at moral people living in a moral society.

I can categorically place all:
common disease <- this is the only set that people consider (the pharmaceutical company diseases) -> the ones that most people worry about.

... ... but infectious disease, monogenic - somatic/germline, mental disease etc etc etc as CATEGORICALLY nothing to do with human beings being innately broken - but the way that we live our lives (environmental context).

The psychosocial model destroys the biomedical model.

I am in no way biased towards either the psychosocial or biomedical model
- and so unlike the vast majority of money which pushes the biomedical model
- I can see the problem more clearly.

You CAN'T understand any aspect of health care whilst you're in it.

Re: All disease is preventable

People most generally would stop at common complex (diabetes, obesity, cancer ... ...)
- the rest are quite easy to connect up to -

- but it's much more fun to enter the difficult area of mental disease - but Lunacie, Barliman with his new name, Peripheral and his new name - have nailed it all.

In simple terms (summarising the three presentations of L, B, P) - please don't ask me to find the posts.

not insensitive but overly sensitive -> stress response

The mechanism is described in the Markram and Markram model of 'Intense World Theory' - Markram/Markram like Doll/Peto are the heavy hitters of connectomics.
Quote:

A first draft predicted connectome using this algorithm is presented in Markram et al. (2015). The predicted connectome contains 7.8 million connections and 36 million synapses.

Re: All disease is preventable

Now style -

Peripheral - style of Endocrinologist
Lunacie - style of a scientist in pharmaceutical corporation
Barliman - style of an exceptional Professor of Medicine
Fraser - style of an immunologist
Greyhound - style of a zoologist
Tudorose - I think that you do it 'all' :-) at least until it becomes dull
Namazu - definitely an epidemiologist
MeADD823 - style of infectious disease specialist
Sarahsweets - mathematics or dermatology
Ginniebean - style of practicing medic
Sarek - definitely an epidemiologist
Pooka - bioinformatics

I think. Trying to work out where your comments come from.

People don't usually care about the 'molecular mechanism of disease' as we were once called before we were stripped of our Wellcome.

Re: All disease is preventable

End game.
ALL disease is preventable with global social change to give rise to moral individuals within a moral society.
We thereby acquire motivation which we use to learn (to develop ourselves) - are happy doing so - and thereby enjoy life ... ... do not become distressed and so do not engage in comfort seeking behaviours cf 'rat park' experiment.

If you want to know how you will die - come with me on a trip to Mount Athos to see how monks die.

- for die you will ... ... however if caught up in flow (psych.) or hyperfocus (round these parts) - then you won't notice it.

Re: All disease is preventable

What can't be explained by this model ?
Nothing - this model covers it all.

Over the last 15 years here (as the >20,000 posts indicate) and >10,000 posts elsewhere on several other sites - we've covered it all.

How about neuroscience ?

Human beings have moved past mind (even) ie science into learning personal quality - art.

Science is dead with The Theory of Everything.
We simply need to understand it (the Theory of Everything or autonomous pattern of evolution) - so that we can develop a moral set of individuals within a moral society - which collaborates - towards each of our ... ... and [consequently] ... ... the collective wellbeing.

Re: All disease is preventable

The human genome contains NOTHING of any worth.
We're in the midst of the emergence of a novel type of neural structure which is of greater sensitivity to precursor structure.
Greater sensitivity means greater sensitivity to stress.

This is ... ... ... what was this site again ?

Learning-centric man

What happens when learning and stress centric man is placed in a stressful environment - the type naturally learns nothing.
(Di)stress destroys stress sensitive man.
