Vyvanse inconsistincy

I started taking vyvanse 40mg on Topamax on 5-9-12. I had previously taken 54mg Concerta but stopped a few years back due to losing my job and insurance.

The Topamax is for my chronic migraines and is started at 25mg am and 25 pm the first week then went to 50 twice daily the next week then 100 daily the next week. Once I got to 100mg I my concentration was not where it needed to be so my doctor cut the am dose back to 50mg and I went up to 50mg on the vyvanse.

I have noticed some inconsistency with my meds from day to day and even on the same day at different times it seems to work and some times it seems like its not even there like I have no energy. It doesn't matter if I eat or not and I have been getting enough sleep and drink tons of water.

I also recently had blood work done and have been monitoring my bp the only thing the stuck out was my vitamin d was very low and I am taking vitamin d under my doctors instructions.

I have just don't seem be able to hyper-focus like I did when I was on concerta.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

Have others had similar issues with vyvanse seeming be inconsistent?

Another thing worth mentioning is I have started crashing around 4 lately pretty hard.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

I notice inconsistencies with Vyvanse occasionally, but taking a B stress complex vitamin seems to help. I think these inconsistencies are due to the fact that Vyvanse gets activated as it moves through your digestive system. So depending on what other food is left in your digestive tract, that may have an effect on the Vyvanse.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

I think vyvanse can just be like that. It has to digest in the gut in order for it to become active and this can take a few hours. Have you tried any other amphetamines?

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

The only other meds I have tried would be concerta. I have tried taking the vyvanse with and without breakfast with and could not tell a difference. Last Monday I made a omelet and had a glass of water with my meds and took my multi vitamin and felt amazing all day long. Tried the same thing the next day and felt next to nothing

Since it is time for my refill should I just call and see if I can get something else or would it be better to go talk to him? Getting an appointment quickly is not a problem. Thanks for the replies

well, in my opinion, you would know right away how a stimulant affects you. There is no need to have it build up. For me, after 2 days I knew that ritalin was not for me, called my doctor and asked to switch. i see no need to suffer anymore than you have to. It might help to talk in person if the doctor wants, because you will need a physical prescription.

I hate Ritlin too. I feel no change in my mind. Just sleepy and chest pain. But for the guy the switched from a MEP to an AMP maybe you should stay with the family of MEP.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

I called my doctor today and left a message and he told me to go ahead and come in today. One thing I forget to mention was (but did mention to my doctor) was this week I have been feeling very lathargic and just really out it. After hearing what all had been going on and all of my thoughts I will be starting concerta 36mg tomorrow. My biggest reservations about concerta are that it did work for controlling my lack of focus and gave my motivation but it fuelled my insomnia.

My doctor said we would try the 36mg dose and go from there last time I was on the 54mg.

No I haven't. Going back to concerta for now since I know it has worked in the past. But my doctor is very open to letting me try what I would like. It's rather frustrating.......I take one medicine to help me focus and another that completely has the opposite effect. Im trying to get back in college right now and my mind seems to have other plans

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

I only notice inconsistencies when I drink coffee or diet coke (the caffine puts me on a roller coaster).

Also, look up add meds and vitamins, apparently some vitamins neutralize the effect of the meds due to all of the citric acid type of ingredients.

Good luck.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

Thanks for all the replys it means a lot. I decided to quit taking vyvanse (have only been drinking water and even went over my vitamins with my doctor about the whole acid thing). This past week has been a nightmare . Have been very lethargic and poor cognitive function (looking at you Topamax)

Decided to go back to Concerta and starting taking 36mg yesterday but had to go up to 72mg today and could tell that vyvanse just was not for me. I got a lot of stuff done a work today which was good considering I missed some time earlier in the week.

Re: Vyvanse inconsistincy

I had the same issue Vyvanse was inconsistent. I have never had it not work, but I have had it last a very short amount of time. It seem to last only about 3.4-5 hours for me. To solve this my doctor spit my dose into twice a day. Which worked but, I just ended up switching to Adderall Xr. Although I do have to say Vyvanse probably worked the best when it worked, but as I mentioned taking it twice a day only gave me about 6 hours of coverage.
