Concerta and caffeine?

Could consuming caffeine with Concerta make me tired? I have only been on it a week and doing great except I noticed when I have my caffeinated tea (100% caffeine of coffee) I am tired. It's weird because I still feel awake and motivated but just tired like I didn't sleep enough. I would have thought that caffeine with a stimulant would make me more wired? Any one else have the same effects as me?

Re: Concerta and caffeine?

I've been on Concerta for a little over 4 months now and I always have a cup of coffee in the morning. Before Concerta I used to have a few cups a day. The caffeine doesn't make me tired, it gives me the energy I need to start the day. The first few days on Concerta though, there was a little interaction with coffee (faster heart rate) but I got used to it and it does not happen anymore.

Re: Concerta and caffeine?

Usually if a stimulant makes you sleepy it means the dose is too low. But you say you're tired, not sleepy. You're awake, motivated and seeing good results from the Concerta, so I'm thinking you may just need a bit of adjustment time. Give it another week or so and see what happens.

Also make sure you are staying hydrated and eating well (especially breakfast before your morning meds). Often that makes all the difference.

Re: Concerta and caffeine?

I'm on 54 mg. It doesn't effect if I don't drink a cup of coffee after the drug. I feel asleep if I don't take caffeine at the same time. Even with coffee it's effect continue only 2-3 hours and then almost all of action of the drug goes away. Does caffeine make concerta's effect shorter or longer? I mean concerta and caffeine are synergic or antagonistic? There's contradictious info in the forum.

Caffeine and Concerta affect different parts of the brain. Caffeine affects adenosine (wakefulness). Concerta affects dopamine and norepinephrine (focus and wakefulness).
