Thumbs up Internet Safety for Students

Tips For Your Safety

1. Not everyone is what they seem. NEVER give out your NAME, ADDRESS, or PHONE # to someone on the net.

2. Be careful about agreeing to meet someone. Can you verify who they are and where they're from or where they work? Do you know people who know them who can vouch for them?

3. If you're going to meet in person, make the meeting on your terms. Meet in a public place with plenty of lighting, use your own transportation and consider making it a double date. Parking away from the main entrance where you're meeting is another safe idea, you can't be followed.

4. Don't give out the name of your school or work.

5. If you meet someone from online make sure your parents know, it's in a public place and that an adult goes with you.

6. Trust your gut. If something they say or do makes you feel uncomfortable tell an adult you know you can trust and is supportive.

Ultimately it's using your common sense. Stay safe. You have people in your life who care about you.

Re: Internet Safety for Students

It is not good if you give out your nam, address and phone number to people we dont know very well or strange. And colleges, work and school out to people etc.

Stay in control - you don't have to give anyone any information whatsoever. You can remain as anonymous as you like. If you decide to put a picture online, anyone can download it, change it and use it without your knowing. And you may be looking at a false picture of the person you are talking to.
Got this off some forums i visit.

Re: Internet Safety for Students

you never know who is on the other side. Some people may sound nice, (age, likes, dislikes, etc.) but many people in this world are not who they seem or pretend to be. btw, love the links :]

Re: Internet Safety for Students

Never saw it bad as to give out your first name to be honest. I mean as long as you don't give them your phone number and address its fine

I agree.
to protect your privacy and security as well.

“Privacy is not something that I'm merely entitled to, it's an absolute prerequisite.”

Security is an attempt to try to make the universe static so that we feel safe.

Re: Internet Safety for Students

Social Networking has its always PROS and CONS
but some have its CONS cos is stranger to stranger

Nice tips above there..

But most importantly, we should be practice precautions and be safe to meet someone in an internet..

For me its not safe if your not practicing it in the right way.

Re: Internet Safety for Students

this is all good stuff to know. but i think its fine to give out your first name unless its something no one else has. i know my mom is really strict about this kind of stuff. i never post a pic of myself either.

Re: Internet Safety for Students

Hi everyone!

I never give out my name and adress because my mom said so and I think she's kinda right. she only agrees with Gameduell where I can play some funny games online. she says it's safe and reliable.
