Frustrated!
I had my third visit to the psychiatrist. I was a little bit excited because on the second visit she gave me an afternoon booster med which my primary care MD had been unwilling to do.
So on my third visit I told her that the Adderall 5 mg helped, but wasn't enough. I don't think this should be surprising. That's a really small dose. She refused to increase the dose and gave me a small dose of celexa instead. I told her that I took celexa for years and weaned myself off and didn't notice a difference. She told me I was a "perfectionist" and that I didn't need more Adderall. I told my wife that she said I was a perfectionist and she laughed. Anyone want to see my messy desk? Or bedroom? How can a doctor spend 60 minutes with me and think that she knows more about my condition than I do? |

Re: Frustrated!
5 mg is a very small dose of Adderall.
Do you think this doctor is uncomfortable prescribing stimulants in general? Or do you think she doesn't trust you for some reason?

Re: Frustrated!
I'm not sure what's going on with her. One more visit next week. We'll see how it goes. I'll find someone new if she's not able to prescribe appropriately for ADD.
It's partially frustrating because I had specifically told the insurance company that I wanted someone who specializes in ADHD. I'm sure that the MD marked a box that said that she had that specialty, but I doubt there was anything else needed for her to call herself a specialist. 5 mg? Really? I only asked for 5 more; knowing that it probably wouldn't be enough, but willing to give it a shot. |
