The fibro and exercise and wellness thread

Post resources you find and what has worked for you.

What works for me may not work for you.

Include anything you feel is relevant to fibro wellness that you have had personal success with.

Keep it fibro related.

I'll start.

Skins compression wear ry400. Helps a sore body get a better nights sleep.

Kayaking in the swell. Helps drain the lymphatic system. Plus it's fun.

Kayaking is a full body workout if you do it right. Love kayaking.

I swear by the hot yoga. Check with your doctor and start with room temperature yoga first.

Massage helps as well. Little pricey to do all the time but I've found the occasional massage helps relax the muscles.

Re: The fibro and exercise and wellness thread

Let me clarify: do NOT do Bikram yoga. It's a super anal group with a predetermined routine that they do in 105 degree heat. Supposedly they get mad at you if you can't do a pose or possibly even if you want to leave the room for a minute. Even I would not try this.

Look for a nice local studio. Mine does 90 degree heat but the practice is for most levels in my classes. They don't care if you need a breather. And the classes can be an hour or an hour 15 minutes. Instead of, I believe 90 for Bikram.

Re: The fibro and exercise and wellness thread

I know I sound like a broken record here but really. So, I've been out of hot yoga for 2-3 weeks now.

I haven't exactly been inactive. I got 10,000 steps in today. 8,000 yesterday, etc. Done some regular yoga, restorative yoga. And I've been doing ballet but today I had to leave early because of the pain. I'm really hurting right now. And the cramping is getting worse. It's fibro and my back.

If your pain isn't controlled, honestly, if you can't or don't want to try yoga I would try a sauna. It HAS to be something with the heat. I can do normal exercise but I still hurt horribly after a week or two. My physical therapist said to use cold and that heat was for really old people who are stiff but I've been on and off on yoga and I can tell you it works. It's the only thing I have found that actually works. And I damn sure notice a difference when I don't do it. I pay the price.

Just signed up for a hot yoga class tomorrow. I'll stay up late in order to go. I can't take this pain.

Re: The fibro and exercise and wellness thread

Getting the heart rate up help. Last race 42 mins average HR 173 bpm and max HR 180.

I live in a warm climate and yes heat helps.
