OCD meds cancel out ADHD medication?

Will the underlying OCD, which is not fully subsided, or its SSRI medication will prevent ADHD medication from taking effect?
This doubt came to me because concerta is not having any effect on me except that anxiety or worry became little worse.
Thanks

Re: OCD meds cancel out ADHD medication?

Typically, no, because different brain structures and neurotransmitters are addressed by each.

Cheers,
Ian

Re: OCD meds cancel out ADHD medication?

it depends on the person, but i've taken both OCD medication and ADHD medication concurrently. it might be the case that concerta isn't the best ADHD medication for you, though. many people have more success with amphetamine-based medications and others have more success with methylphenidate-based ones (which is what concerta is).

i'm not currently medicating my adhd for other reasons, but when i was, i concurrently took 25 mg zoloft and 10 mg abilify for intrusive thoughts/OCD, along with ativan (up to 2 mg) and xanax PRN. dexedrine always worked for me and didn't increase my anxiety.

so, as i said, it's an individual thing, but you might try something other than concerta to see if it's more effective for you.

it could also have to do with *which* OCD medications you're taking and at what dosage, though.

hope that helps. x
