Re: 12 Things ADHD High Schoolers want their Teachers to Know

Not being able to complete daily classwork in a timely manner is a legitimate, brain based,neurobiological executive function

impairment (executive dysfunction); caused by ADHD.

The Reason: of the 6 types of Attention defined by neuropsychology, 5 are considered to represent "input" functions of the brain

While the one and only "output" function of the brain (sustained or persistent) attention, is the one disrupted by ADHD.

The other points to consider would be:

1) ADHD disrupts goal directed planning & task completion ( i.e., the ability to track time;also known as "Time Blindness);"

2) Doing your work and either losing it or forgetting to turn it in, is another Executive Dysfunction caused by ADHD;

3) research does NOT support extra time on a test as working

There's more but for now, this 'll do.

hope that helps
