Re: News-Medical.net

Is it the URLs/hyperlinks that they are specifically objecting to?

I went to one of their articles related to ADHD, and there was actually a "share" button at the top of the page, so it seems really odd that they'd object to linking to their articles -- yet be encouraging people to do so.

But I could understand why reprinting the content of articles here might be a problem if it violates copyright.

Perhaps it's easier/less problematic just to avoid all content and all links from the site?

Can you clarify?

Re: News-Medical.net

I wonder whether us reprinting and citing takes away from their site traffic and thus may reduce the ad revenue they get from direct hits on their site.

Re: News-Medical.net

Apparently, the number of sites that link to theirs, affects Google rankings... or something like that.

Re: News-Medical.net

I expect (but have no way of substantiating it) that mentioning things that were found on their site is OK, as long as each reader is forced to re-type the address for themselves and there are no clickable links.

So saying things like "I found something on their site, google *insert google phrase with their site name here*, have a look" would be the best way if you found something you wanted to share from their site?

If someone finds something on their site through google I don't see there being a problem with that

Re: News-Medical.net

I was thinking that one could type

"I read this in an article at news-medical dot net slash interesting_topic_name, and I'd like your opinions..."

...thus making it non-clickable but also non-ambiguous.

Peculiar-- I would have thought the more web traffic they get the higher their ranking would be.

It certainly makes it difficult to have a free discussion about any items that they raise.

I don't know the Google ranking system - and as far as I know, it's Google's intention that everyone regard that system as a "black box" - but I'm guessing that the number of people deciding to go directly to a site is what makes that site look important. If everyone reading a site always arrives there by way of another site (like ours), then they end up looking less like "where people habitually go for the information they need" and more like an afterthought.
