I live in Norman, Oklahoma. I am currently a student at OU, a sophomore majoring in Political Science. However I am not diagnosed with ADD or ADHD although I believe it is very likely. I am a fan of Adderal, Concerta etc. for school purposes.

My name is Lynn Ruch. I live in Oklahoma, at least for the next several weeks. I have a Masters of Science Degree in Applied Clinical Psychology. I'm licensed to practice in Oklahoma (Licensed Behavioral Practitioner) and in Kansas (Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist). Don't let that fool you. I am the classic Adult ADDer. My story is like so many other people with ADD. I'll offer you the short version of why Iím here. My resume looks great. However, I know it's just another piece of paper and not the real me at all. I graduated with my Master's degree in 1990 and have worked at four different mental health organizations. The first was as a Children's Emergency Specialist. That job was the first time I had to maintain the paperwork to support the therapy I was providing. I left that job after a year and a half. During that time I saved enough money to buy myself a motorcycle and put back enough cash that I was able to spend the next year riding around the United States. I eventually ran out of money so I found the next job. At the second job I managed to stay with the organization for almost ten years. I specialized during that period and did well on everything except the "paperwork". Eventually, I quit, before they had to fire me. After that I tried my hand at private practice. However, after a little over a year of that I had become depressed and overwhelmed by the problems in my marriage and in keeping the numerous aspects of owning a practice. I move out of the house, ended up at my "parent's house" for a while (not recommended). I worked at another agency until the same thing happened again. Moved again and found work as a contract therapist. Now, it's happed yet again. Each time I am told by others that I'm above average as a clinician, but seemingly unable to maintain the required paperwork deadlines necessary to the job. So, here I am. I've come to this Forum because I am currently 41 years old and have finally accepted that this problem must be addressed if I am to succeed in my chosen profession. When I talked to my old professor recently I was given a perfect metaphor for what it's been like for me. He said, "you've got a high intelligence but a short attention span. It's like having the fastest race car on the road, but also having the worst steering. You've always been able to move you mind quickly but you're frequently driving off the road into the ditch!" Yes, it's been fun alright. Ok, that's enough honest disclosure for an introduction. Let's chat!! I've never join a chat or forum before and I'm looking forward to making some new friends out there.
Lynn

Hello from Oklahoma, I am new here...

Hey everyone,
I just found this and so happy to find a place to talk to others who live with this "thing" like myself.
I was diagnosed years ago and chose out of fear as much as anything to only take Clondine. Maybe due to the fear of the reaction of wrong meds, wrong diagnosis and finally am getting on track. It is nice after 46 years of dealing with something and finally finding out how to treat, or well getting there anyway and deal with it all.
I know nobody with this and it gets hard to cope sometimes and there are just times it would be nice to talk to someone who actually knows what it can all be about and understand the little roller coaster of ADHD and the whole story of it, or is there a whole story of what we feel?
I guess my login name tells a bit of what I feel a lot of the times. Very misunderstood and the heart is crying, but of course I smile for everyone when I can, when I cannot, well I don't go anywhere.
My last child at home is a senior and I am trying to find my way into the working world again. That is outside my home based business.
So, I think maybe I found a place when I needed it the most.
I don't have much time to spend right now explaining, but will be back to read and post hopefully tomarrow or soon.
Looking forward to sharing and listening to everyone, thanks for letting me in your world, one of which we share in many ways no matter where we are from. Later...cryingheart

Hello everyone!
I'm so excited. I feel like Sid, the sloth in the movie Ice Age. I've always known there were others like me. Wasn't the problem, however, convincing everyone else? Either way, it's nice to know. I'm from Tulsa,Oklahoma. In 2002, After being treated 2yrs., '99-02, for depression and anxiety, I was diagnosed w/ADHD combined type. Approximately 3 years ago, after being taken off meds. for the depression/anxiety, I went to my Dr. w/ yet another dilema. I was initially told that I had bi-polar disorder. This I feel was due in large part to the hypoactivity w/extreme impulsiveness I was experiencing. Two months after this, the diagnosis was reversed and, I was told I had ADHD. I have only very recently began treatment. It is reassuring to find others who can not only understand where you're coming from, but also know the extreme effort, often missed by someone w/out ADD/ADHD, that is put forth by all of us.

Re: Roll Call - Oklahoma Attention Deficit Disorder

My name is Mark Mumma. I was diagnozed with ADD in 1997. I heard all through school that I was a "bright kid who just doesn't apply himself." Man oh man did I ever get tired of hearing about that.

Recently I've been sued by spammers and lost. The story was featured on a full page story in TIME Magazine January 2007.

I am trying to finish a documentary film about my troubles with the spammers but am currently off my meds and need to find a good ADD/ADHD physician.

Any suggestions? I've set my settings so other users can email me directly.

Anyone, anyone, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller....

Hey all, new guy here. I wrote out a big long intro in the new member section so I'll keep this one brief.

I live in Bethany, OK. I had had ADHD my whole life but only took meds for a short while in my early teens and just recently started up again about a month ago.

Glad to see some more Sooners...or Pokes if thats what you feel led to be

Anyways while I can still concentrate I'm from Tulsa and just recently figured out that all of my "mental/social" issues among other things have been very much misdiagnosed. ADD seems to fit me perfectly and my Dr. agrees. However so far no luck finding what works but also only tried one thing lol.. will know more next week when he switches my meds. Anyways I'm rambling Good to have people close by who understand

Re: Roll Call - Oklahoma Attention Deficit Disorder

Hey Okies!!

I know this is for people LIVING in Oklahoma, but I want to say "here" because I'm an Okie through and through--- just currently transplanted in South Dakota. I'm an Air Force wife and my husband is currently stationed here, at Ellsworth AFB. He's currently in training to be a Flight Engineer, and we are crossing our fingers that he'll be PCS''d to Tinker AFB.
I want to come home, to my "people!" haha

I'm chris, suffererd since child hood. Has a physciatrist who was sucessfully treating me with dexadrine and Zoloft. I coordinated drug studies in addition to directing a large medical clinic. I finally surcumbed to the need for treatment when i realized it was taking me 80 hours a week to do stuff that should only have taken 60. Zoloft was needed for the marraige consequence suffered as a result of never being around. After divorce moved to Tulsa . Stopped seeing Bolby and stress reduction helped for a while. Now I'm working all the time at a clinic, ingoring thing to be done, except seeing my son. I've heard of a couple docs her to try, but also heard they like to use benzo's in addition. Benzo's have causes a lot of problems for my family members and want nothing to do with them. Is it permissable to ask for M.D's that you have had good experiences with??

Re: Roll Call - Oklahoma Attention Deficit Disorder

Hi, I just joined this forum. I was diagnosed with ADD in high school (in a different state) but was prescribed dexedrine, which just made my heart race. That was 20 years ago. I also struggled with depression and getting control of that has been my main focus since then. The ADD however is still causing major problems for me in my life. I've tried a couple of Adderalls that a friend gave me, to see if it would help, and it was fantastic. I felt so focused and my mind was so clear.

I lost my insurance last year when I lost my job but am back at work now and should have it again soon. Can anyone recommend a doctor in the OKC area who is affordable, actually believes in ADD and the benefits of medication? Last year when I decided I needed treatment for this, I had three disappointing experiences - I went to one psychiatrist in my network and asked, when making the appointment, if he treated adult ADD. The receptionist said yes. Well when I got to the appointment, the psychiatrist told me within one minute that he did not treat ADD and did not really believe it existed. Lovely. The second psychiatrist I went to was very sketchy* but but said I would need to have extensive testing done before she would give me a prescription and it would cost at least $500-$1,000.

And then finally, there is the "Norman ADD Center" (http://www.normanaddcenter.com) which specifically says on its webpage, "We provide diagnostic evaluations, treatment, education and support for adults with Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder." Well I called and was told they don't take adult patients. Thanks!

So with insurance looming on the horizon, I'm desperately looking for a doctor in the Norman/OKC area who "believes" in adult ADD and will prescribe Adderall without making me jump through hoops. I have every symptom and can demonstrate how destructive ADD has been in my life.

Thanks so much.

*She had plastic furniture in her waiting area and her receptionist didn't have an actual phone, only a cell phone. He told me I owed way more than my copay which I didn't have on me. He said he would meet at Starbucks the next day, which was payday, to get the money since he wouldn't be at the office! He called my insurance company while I was there and said I had to pay more so I naively believed him. I told him just to charge my debit card the next day and he said OK. I was very suspicious after that and kept looking online but it wasn't on my insurance claims at all. I eventually called my insurance company and they said no way I should have been charged that much, and I called the "assistant" to complain and eventually they charged my insurance company. And he claimed they had wanted to send me the refund but didn't have my address. By the way her name is Dr. Andrea James and you can Google her to see how many low ratings she has.
