I mean I fully understand that there's plenty of bad cops out there...but there's tons of great police officers out there as well.
I'm naive though and as such, I believe that there's FAR more good cops than there are bad. Like the vast majority are great people, and only a small percentage become corrupt, power hungry or whatever.
It's just that news, movies and society at large tend to make a big deal (rightly so) when an officer does something considered bad.
But what about all the awesome things police do? They sometimes get mentioned...but it seems the good are easily forgotten to most while the bad stuff sticks around in our memory.
And then of course, what about all of the other 99% of the police who don't do anything newsworthy (either bad or good) but are just doing routine, regular police work. Traffic stops, and patrolling, and detective work, and helping settle disputes, or being guards in jails and prisons. They're out there day in and day out busting their a**es off to keep society safe and running smoothly...but they get no media attention and get over looked.

I've been pulled over by police, I've been in a situation where police had me at gunpoint and was arrested, and I've been to jail.
And honestly...I've not had a single bad experience with any officer. They've all been respectful...even the guards at jail. And especially when I've been pulled over.
I think it has a lot to do though with how much respect I have for them, and the fact that I've always been very honest with them and don't give them any sort of negative attitude.

Maybe I've just been lucky? But I'd like to believe that most people have rather decent encounters with police. That not all of them are jerks.

Sorry for the rant.
It is something I get quite flustered about though. There's so many people who give police a bad rap and it's never made a whole lot of sense to me. I love police. I love the fact that right now there's police driving around town patrolling. They make me feel a whole heck of a lot safer then I would without them.

There's bad teachers, there's bad priests, there's bad doctors...I mean, there's bad/corrupt/whatever people in any form of employment where power is involved...it just happens. Power can corrupt people, it draws people in...and some people just can't handle it. But just because there's some bad apples out there...doesn't mean everyone in those professions are bad apples.

It just makes me sad
Police officers in general are towards the very top of my list on people I trust. I think most of them are very upstanding awesome people with extremely solid morals and values. I love them, and feel safe with them.

Sorry again for the rant.
/sigh xP
To be fair there's some of the cops over here that I don't trust. One in particular cornered poor Ebony just for the hell of it and she got so stressed out she needed two vet trips to get her stress-related asthma back under control

And yes he knew that it was bad to corner her, that was the one thing I asked them not to do, I told them Ebony wasn't well at the time and asked for them not to corner her, he ignored that request, said that she could be "stuffed into the carrier" then deliberate cornered her causing her stress which then triggered her asthma and she couldn't relax for weeks after meeting him

Yeah, that's a big part of why I've got the strong opinions that I have on this...I've been lucky enough to never have had a negative encounter with police.

Even just 1 bad encounter would taint my views on them. I think it's just human nature. Once trust is stripped from you, it's hard for it to build back up.

It sucks that it only takes a couple of bad apples for so many to start mistrusting police in general though IMHO.

Where in the name of Dumbo the flying elephant though, was the benefit in him cornering poor Ebony when he KNEW she was sick cause I'd said so and I said she was timid as well and I let them do their job but asked the only thing as being that they tried not to stress her out/corner her

I'm upsetting myself now remembering

I'm certain him doing that probably shortened her life in the end I mean yes they had a job to do but what the heck did he get out of re-traumatising her like that

There wasn't any

There's no doubt that there's police like him that are jerks. And it sucks.
I'm not really upset with the people who mistrust police officers like you who have had first hand experiences with bad cops...they took that trust from you and of course you're going to have a hard time ever fully trusting them again.

I don't know. Am I contradicting myself?
I guess it's not so black and white.
I do think it sucks that all it takes is 1 jerk cop for people to develop a negative view of police at large...
But at the same time, I understand. It's only human nature and there's no shame in that.

Is Ebony a kitty? Poor little thing! Is she still acting skittish? I just hate that. Animals should be treated with all the love a person can give. We have such capacity to cause harm to them that they can't process and they suffer needlessly and in some ways maybe more than we would under similar circumstances.

I've read that people who choose law enforcement and such careers tend to be more skeptical, detail oriented, conservative and rigid. People who stay on the force tend to be loyal, analytical and fair. I've also had plenty of run-ins with cops and can say I've encountered two who were retaliatory but not one who was outright aggressive. Most were very respectful. All but one I would consider aloof. They do seem to appear skeptical or at least dead-pan, but I guess they can't afford to show emotional reactions, can they?

The non-aloof cop had "Officer Smile" on his name plate. I was going 90 on an open stretch at the end of a semester at college (forever ago). He asked why I was speeding, told me I didn't need to cry-nothing was going to happen, and that my parents are probably excited to have me home and would be heartbroken if I had a wreck at that speed. He told me he'd responded to a fatal MVA with a teen driver and that was the worst thing he ever had to do. No ticket. I slowed down. That day anyway.

I hope Ebony feels better.

Ebony took her last breath nearly a year ago (11 months and one day ago) yes she was a cat, she was my furbaby girl <3

She had a horrible time in life before she came to me, abused and abandoned with kittens and we think cause she hated cops (she considered it to be her life's mission to get upset on the windowsill every single time a cop car came within sight of the house)

I am so sorry! Poor baby girl! I bet you gave her a wonderful loving home though. So despite her horrific and undeserved beginning, your love would have been what she knew the rest of her life. I hope the kittens were ok too. I have a rescue kitten. He was 3-4 weeks old when my daughter found him this summer. The vet thought someone threw him and his brother who didn't make it. He still breathes audibly and can't seem to breathe out of his nose very well. Makes me ill to think of how a person could harm a little kitten or a pregnant cat! They do seem to get PTSD. He runs when anyone comes to the house and even arches his back and hisses if they come closer. He's very calm and loving with me and my daughter.

I guess maybe I responded to a real old post. What a dummy. I'll try to be more careful.
