Question about medicaid-managed care.

I'm not sure this is the right thread, but I just received notice that I'm losing my health coverage. I applied for public assistance and was approved for less than $200 a month. I live at home, and I am so mad right now. There's no reason for the denial, I meet the Medicaid income guidelines.

I'll know more tomorrow when I call. Anyone else had this problem? I live in NY, by the way. This really sucks, even more of a setback for me.

Re: Question about medicaid-managed care.

I'm sorry to hear you're losing your coverage -- that really stinks.

According to the NY Medicaid 2018 income guidelines, "The income and resources (if applicable) of legally responsible relatives in the household will also be counted."

I don't know your age, but you mentioned living "at home" (presumably with one or more relatives?). I wonder if they could be counting assets belonging to your relative(s) against you?

In any case, I hope you're able to get things straightened out so that you can keep your coverage.

Re: Question about medicaid-managed care.

Guess I was just worrying about nothing. It turns out that my local DSS office needs to enroll me again. When I was approved for PA, they probably didn't know about the extra paper work to fill out for my health insurance.

That sounds like good news! I hope they get the paperwork straightened out quickly.
