Lockdowns

How are things going on in your area? Is your local on the verge of having another lockdown?

No, but we need to be, no one here is listening. They are acting like as*es about masks.

Re: Lockdowns

Yes, we have a partial lockdown going on right now. Just restaurants and gyms. No large gatherings either although they let protesters get away with murder.

Re: Lockdowns

Not in our suburb or the city next door, but they have issued a lock down in
the smaller town an hour away where I lived and shopped for years.

The big thing around here now is covid antibody tests. Why? Just like any flu,
covid keeps mutating and people have gotten it twice.

Re: Lockdowns

We are on curfew. Because apparently you can only catch covid between 10PM and 5AM.

Yup. Same here. Bars and restaurants are closed from 10:00pm to 6:00am because once it gets drunk out, social distancing is not a thing at all.

Personally, I'm not eating inside a building anytime soon anyway, so that doesn't affect me. I am watching the numbers go up and up and up here.

Capacity limits are back to 50% from 75% now (but mathematically for most establishments, the difference between 50% and full is not appreciable. 25% capacity allows for adequate spacing between tables).

We were doing relatively well, and did have fairly strict restrictions in the spring, but the psychology and politics of the situation have both changed, so I'm not expecting to go back to the restrictions we had at the beginning of the pandemic.

What I'm saying,

The problem is selfish people who don't think of others.

Re: Lockdowns

That smaller town I mentioned before . . . they had to turn away a woman
with kidney failure who desperately needed dialysis.

Although that town is nearly in the center of a pretty large state, they have
had to send patients to hospitals out-of-state because all the beds are being
used for Covid 19.

But what happens if someone comes in with a heart attack or stroke and
needs to get immediate treatment? Someone who can't survive the more
than 2-hour ambulance trip to another hospital?

And meanwhile, a restaurant owner in another part of my state is refusing
to require his workers to wear a mask, and proudly posted a sign saying that
customers don't have to wear a mask . . . because he doesn't believe that
anyone is actually dying of coronavirus. OMGS the stupid!

It was a year ago that I was in the hospital with kidney failure, so this hits
home for me. Thankfully I recovered without needing dialysis. But what if
my treatment had been delayed? Would my condition be worse now? I will
be taking a diuretic for the rest of my life, better than dialysis, but still . . .

This is so true. I really can't understand how other people think nowadays, I even read recently about a patient who did not believe Covid-19 is real and died from it. His last words were "This isn't happening". I mean, how unbelievable.

I know most of us here are mentally exhausted from what's happening and how other people accept this pandemic like it's nothing. I've recently read about this article and it helped me fight my anxiety over these things. I thought I should share this with you all.

Re: Lockdowns

It's hard to serve food digitally, and people want to go sit at a restaurant and eat, not take-home food and eat it once it's cooled some.

Honestly, a lot of people are done with it, don't care, and don't want to hear. I'm in a rural area and this thing isn't a thing here. I still, after 9 months, I knew one person who supposedly got it when she had a fever, exhausted, and diarrhea for 3 days... she tested positive. That's the extent of it.

The place we go to breakfast on weekends has already said that if they tell them to shut down again, he will not until they physically come and shut him down.

Many bars and clubs around here went back to the prohibition era "Speakeasy" way of running a business. Blackout all windows, no exterior lights, cars parked off of the property, and enter/exit a back door.... but they paid the bills. That's likely coming back.

Re: Lockdowns

Here in Kansas less than half of the counties have implemented the governor's
face mask and distancing policy.

Yeah, the numbers of cases (and deaths) have been lower in those counties,
but the other half have over-full covid 19 wards, and their hospitals are sending
patients to those other counties.

So if the governor ordered a state-wide lockdown, many would ignore that too.

I'm sure that this is only temporary and soon, we will all be able to get back to our normal way of life without needing to worry much about this Covid-19.*
