Re: A good read...
Have you ever read any of the Redwall novels, Mids? I think you'd really like them!

Re: A good read...
I like to read fan fiction. It's a guilty pleasure of mine I do not admit to irl. I like it cause there are some great amateur writers, I already relate to the characters from tv/movies, the stories are much shorter than books, and they are free and easy to access.

Re: A good read...
So I've been remiss in reading many books in 2020. Mostly mags and papers, glued to know what's going on around the world with everything. Before the pandemic I was hitting some religious texts while I was off for surgery. I had the Prayer of Jabez for several years as a part of required reading in college. Decided to give it a go since I didn't remember any of it. Interesting read.
I also read The Language of Flowers. Good read about a girl that was an orphan that aged out of a group home and was trying to figure out love and life. I also started on Alice in Wonderland but was put off on the books detailed paper on the author. They surmised that he was a pedophile in love with Alice as a child who rebuked him when she came of age. I battle now whether I want to read the story. Many friends have said it's a good book so I think I might suck it up soon if work settles down with all the covid related work I've had to do as a part of my job. Let's hope 2021 will give me the time I hope to have to do more things for me and not focused so much on the epic wtf with the world at large. I also need to try again to see if I can find the books you guys recommend. Onward!!

Re: A good read...
I'm rereading "A Christmas Carol", by Charles Dickens. I read it every year around the holidays.
I have a stack of books i was going to reread but i just felt averse to reading during lockdown. But perhaps because I am now translating books for a living ![]() really i want to reread Lord of the Rings, though. the next one is "philippe" , by julie wildwater. (it's volume 2) when the translation of "tommy" ( volume 1) is out on amazon, i'll let you know! it's a french- canadian mystery novel, the "detective" is a vegan psychologist and kayak enthusiast . it's gripping! i refuse to read ahead and i discover as i go along. ![]() |

Re: A good read...
One More Lie (by Amy Lloyd) is a book i am reading, so far it's a really good read
![]() Basically, it centres around two characters who got arrested and charged with murder and it's difficult to see so far whether one character is more evil than the other, the one with the difficult start in life basically gets thrown "under the bus" in the court case in favour of the younger character, but I havent yet worked out how messed up the other character actually is (the one who the court favoured above the other one) She claims to not remember what happened, but she might not be a trustworthy character, if this makes sense ![]()

omg, thank you. It's really exciting! the cover page has my name on it ![]() "translated by stef" it's French Canadian and i've stumbled onto some odd expressions. but it's "easy", because there's not much research. the hardest part is making a simple conversation sound natural. |
