Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful

For years I have felt that the harder I concentrated, all of a sudden I was nitpicking absolutely everything. By the time I finished, I hadn't a clue what I read in the first place. Plus I finished 25% later than everyone else and felt stupid, a lot of times not getting the simplest answers correct.

Re: "No scientific basis" - Here's the Proof

I actually didn't believe ADD was real growing up and then it turned out I had it! Oh god the irony! Thing is most people never actually look into it, I never truly did just heard a few things and thought "meh kids should be all crazy". Most people don't look into most things. When my life went to **** and I started to look into things I could have and I looked deeper into ADHD I fit every single symptom hahahaha. Also it turned out ADD was something very very different from what I thought it was from just hearing about it from mostly other people who also never actually read into it. So I am not hard on the non-believers, I was one :P

Re: "No scientific basis" - Here's the Proof

I went after the "tool" who prompted this because, as it so happened, he was a "troll."

I don't recall if he turned out to be a Scientologist, however, he absolutely had a not so

hidden agenda.

He was here to undermine and to cause disruption, via passive-aggressive disrespect.

My response was to go after him.

He left after one week, which speaks volumes.

Whenever someone refuses to respond to evidence based retorts, and then goes on to

either change the subject or continue as though no one answered, then you know they're

not looking for true dialogue.

In short, they're a deceptive douchebag.

This guy was everybit and more of a bag of douche.

Re: "No scientific basis" - Here's the Proof

Since I first posted this, the Conners Rating Scales have come under fire in the

literature, so much so that, after reading those data, I no longer use it.

Once again, this goes back to the longstanding empirical support for test scores

alone NEVER being diagnostic;which I wasn't doing after 2003.

Test scores are ancillary (secondary) and never primary.

Today, I use a cognitive screen, either a K-BIT-2 or a WISC-IV, a BRIEF (my fave),

Parent & Teacher Rating Scales(s), and an ABAS-II (Parent & Teacher).

The Behavior Rating Inventory of Excecutive Function (BRIEF) and the Adaptive

Behavior Assessment System II (ABAS II) are 2 of the best measures of Executive

Function & Adaptive Functioning available.

I like to use the cognitive screen as an example of "KNOWING" and the other

two as examples of "DOING."

ADHD has long been postulated to be a disorder of :

"Doing what you know and not knowing what to do."

Therefore, can you persist long enough to put what you know to good use in the "real world ?"

That's what makes ADHD a Performance Disorder and not a Skill Deficit.

That translates to the school NOT being able to TEACH the ADHD student

the "responsibility" to turn their daily work in on time.

Can't ( I repeat CANNOT) be done for someone with ADHD.

The caveat to all of the above is the use of my 7 + years in the making

Evidence Based ADHD Screen.

I've posted on it before,so I won't go into that or what brought it about.

I use the Screen at Intake to see if there's support for further assessment.

To be perfectly honest (and I don't mean to brag or be grandiose, because

that's NEVER been my style; I propose a "diagnostic hypothesis" to be expected

from the scores if the Screen is accurate) I can predict what the scores will

look like almost to a "T(no pun intended/Scores)."

Thanks for the excellent feedback here.

When I went back and re-read the OP, all I could think was....

Man was I ****ed at that guy.

Truthfully, I'd have to say "Thanks" to drummergod45 for giving me the opportunity

to do more than kick his assss.

He came here to cause trouble and ended up leaving a positive legacy.

If you go to his public profile, you'll see my "Happy Birthday" message to him.

So I guess "trolls" do serve a higher purpose....lol

Happy Holidays

Have you read Joel T. Nigg's book, "What Causes ADHD - Understanding What Goes Wrong and Why?" If not, I think you would find it really interesting.

Re: "No scientific basis" - Here's the Proof

Scattered,
Scattered,
You say that, "most probably we'll find out that there are different sub-group of ADHD, and that they are influenced by different combinations of genes"...
In Joel Nigg's book, "What Causes ADHD - Understanding What Goes Wrong and Why", if you haven't already read it, you will find an interesting discussion and evidence for what he believes are "Etiological Sub-types" of ADHD. Also you might be interested in his overview (in the same book) of the evidence for environmental toxins like lead and other heavy metals, organophosphates, (in utero) alcohol and nicotine and so on, being CAUSES of ADHD.

Hope this is of some interest for you(??)

Regards,

John

Thumbs up Re: "No scientific basis" - Here's the Proof

very intersting thread. How can one bash Barkley. A few months ago I got finally got his book add in adults after waiting months. It is a publication of the results of his long studies. When I first started to read it was emotionally painfull cause it was so cut and dry without any sugar coating.

That book is what helped me finally buck up and truely accept my ADD as real. All one has to do is look at my school, driving, medical and police records plus talk to my past employers to dx me as an open and shut case. I thank Barkley for helping me move forward. I had treaded water for so long with this ADD thing that it felt good to finally be able to lay my back and float.

so thank you everyone who supports Dr. Barkley. the goofycook
