Don't tut or sigh at me when I drop my mobile phone again when trying to lock the front door, think have I got everything, wind blowing my hair around, birds flying past, cars drives past, siren from factory down the road goes off, ding ding or the railway crossing, I hear a train coming....sooooo many distractions something has gotta give & yes I will curse again too when I drop it !!

Yes, I was told to take out the trash 2387 times in my life. Yes, I forgot again. No, I'm not doing it in purpose. What? I'm trying to listen, but I'm thinking about how I'll have stinky rotten trash with worms in my backyard by next week and probably will forget that one too.

I love this thread Red! Maybe Husband and I can come up with a kid friendly short version for our home. I'll send it to my family, they'll hate it!

This thread makes me feel like Whitney in Waiting to Exhale.
Finding out that all of you do ,and feel, these sorts of things, too...well, I feel a lot more comfortable with myself and my recent diagnosis.
Keep it coming!
Thanks!

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

* Don't expect me to be on time EVER. I will always be late. I just have no sense of time passing. Try not to be mad with me. I'm more frustrated with myself than you'll ever know.

* I DO want a tidy house, it just doesn't come naturally to me. Tidying is a mammoth task - it takes a lot of effort. But when I DO do it, I feel extremely proud of myself. Trouble is, in another 5 minutes it will be untidy again. And telling me to 'tidy as I go along' is like asking me to grow wings. It ain't happening!

* If you find the milk in the cleaning cupboard and the bleach in the fridge, it doesn't mean I'm trying to poison you. I just had a million thoughts going on in my mind and got a little muddled along the way...

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

When I do clean my house, Don't walk in and in front of my guests loudly say " WOW it's clean in here!."

Don't nod your head in understanding of my housekeeping difficulties and say, "I know some people just don't care as much as others"

Even worse- "What do you mean 'it's difficult'? There is nothing difficult in keeping a well maintained house!"

Sure. How about you live in my skin for a couple of weeks?

Grrr!

Thankfully, I don't have to worry about that person's commentary. I hope. At least not this month...

Never forget. "Normal" is just a setting on the washing machine.
Do you really want to be a setting on the washing machine?
If you do, wouldn't you rather be the spin cycle?

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

I've got one. This drives my partner and my regular lab partner (geology student) crazy.

Me: I can't find the ____ (rice, flower, rock sample#g671...)

Them: Did you look?

Me: Yes

Them: Are you sure?

Me: YES!

Them: It's right here. Right in front. How could you not see that?

Me: If I'd seen it in the first place I wouldn't have asked you to look for it. By the way... I looked for 20 minutes before I finally asked you for help. To me, all of the samples/bags of bulk flower look the same. You're not nearly as frustrated as I am.
