perhaps ADD is akin to being left handed....

OR maybe that is the best way to explain it to people.

I am left handed, it can be more difficult to do things, I either need to get specialized items or adapt to using right handed things.

People don't develop something "right handed" they just aren't left handed so they don't know what it is like. For example, my kid has a game that has a pen tethered to it. the tether is on the right side, because when you hold a pen, you hold it at an angle a right handed person holds the pen at a 45 degree angle < this way, a left handed person holds it this way >, therefore pulling the tether farther, rather then closer to the tether point.

( I am not sure if that made any sense but it does to me)

Basically, I do things differently, I have different challenges, as a left handed person in right handed world, just like I have challenges from ADD in a non-ADD world.

I have flat feet. I can't walk for long and...the analogy ends right there.
Seriously though, my feet tend to hurt after about an hour and my legs too.

I find my right hand muscles are weaker than my left hand. I guess from overuse. But the left hand comes in handy when it comes to turning on a tap.

Re: perhaps ADD is akin to being left handed....

DH is a leftie (he's not ADHD), I'm a rightie with ADHD... although, after living with him for a decade, I've found that I've adapted quite a bit, in that I often find myself doing something more like a leftie would than a rightie... doesn't help that my left side is my more dominant side though
