Unhappy About to apply for disability :( I can't believe its come to this..

Many of you know me from my posts about my job issue I had in 2006 - I lost my job Sep 19th and can't seem to get motivation again to get a job.

This job I had for 4.5 years was the best job I ever had and the one I held the longest. It was one I had been doing for a long time and needed a change, but since loosing it and seeing where I am - I wish I could have it back. I was fired and its a long story, but I haven't been able to feel motivated about getting a job anywhere and I sent off for disability forms to fill out - they have arrived - it will take 3-4 mo to see if I am approved - but right now things are tight and I have to try.

I guess that's all you can do is keep on trying regardless of the outcome and good luck with applying for disability too.

Re: About to apply for disability :( I can't believe its come to this..

Here's another question?...do they have employment agencies in California and if so have you possibly considered visiting one?? in Australia they have several different employment agencies and among them are ones specifically for those with disabilities and "disorders" ranging from physical impairments such as Spina Bifida, Deafness, psychiatric issues right down to anxiety disorders, ADD/ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders etc etc, maybe that might help you as you can discuss your skills and experience and they might be understanding of your situation and might try to help you but along with that YOU need a positive attitude!!

Employment agencies WILL NOT help you unless you have a stable work history.

The job market now is really a tale of 2 extremes (at least in the NE & NYC area). Fields like finance, accounting, law, construction are booming and there aren't enough people But if you have that less than perfect work history, you cannot find a job. I get more calls from recruiters & companies than I can return, but I cannot get a job offer.

Hi Nick! You could always walk dogs! I have been fired from or quit every single office job I have ever attempted to do. And, believe it or not, you can make a very decent living.

Unhappy Unable to get perscription for Dexedrine so I can study for my nursing boards

I have been on anti-depressants for over 10 years now, I've tried just about everything out there. I just finished my second degree as a nurse (was scared to death to go back to school after 7 years and feeling like I was stupid b/c I could never get anything done). SO before nursing school I saw a psychiatrist who put me on all kinds of bi-polar and antipsychiotic drugs where I could barely stay awake or go to sleep. I'm fine if I'm up on my feet, but once I sit down to study or write a paper I get completely distracted and get nothing done. This has gone on for 12 years, all that time I thought I was kinds dumb, but knew I always wanted more. I tried dexedrine once for driving across the country and it worked great, no side effects, no hang over. I've tried to get a script (I don't have health insurance and am not working b/c I've failed my state nursing boards 2 times, partly b/c I cannot sit long enough to study what I need to and second I'm not a good test taker) but have been unsuccessful. If I only had 3 or 4 weeks worth, I know I could pass my exam. I'm so desperate, I'd rather not turn to unknown drugs, but maybe I will....I want to stay awake so bad and learn what I need to. During school I was on Provigil which helps you remain awake with no side effects but the medication is soooo expensive. Does anyone know of anything? Please help. Thanks,

Re: About to apply for disability :( I can't believe its come to this..

Just know that usually you have to apply three or four times to get disability. Especially for mental health issues. I work as a social worker and see this a lot. It's because a lot of people out there abuse the system and it makes it harder for those who really need help to get it. It's one of the reasons I am looking for a career change. I can't stand to continue to see honestly disabled people struggle for disablitly while some people that get it aren't disabled at all. I wish you the best of luck and pray for speedy processing!

Sounds like a fun job. What do I need to do?

Re: About to apply for disability :( I can't believe its come to this..

That's encouraging.... Not to compare me with you, just because you got approved doesn't mean I will ... but it would be such a relief if I did!

I totally understand about it being humbling, though. Even though I feel I definitely need the support, no one around me has validated that need. Not my psychiatrist, not my mother, not my boyfriend. If the SSA does judge me to be disabled enough to not be able to support myself, it will be validating but seriously humbling at the same time. Validation that I really AM a mess.
