Tbh the consequences of doing it are almost nil at the moment and the benefits are there. After Monday it is going to have serious consequences again if I drink. So for me it's about taking the time to be naughty.

Hermus, you've done exceptionally well. What's important is that you don't beat yourself up about this. Tomorrows a new day and a fresh start.

Hubby and I at company christmas party. Normally a fancy affair but 6 inches of snow scared people away. I looked awesome though and hubby has "grow an epic beard"on his bucket list.

I believe I found my way back to sobriety. Had a few difficult days, but this is the path I have chosen. So I'll stick with it.

Re: Come on In If You're Online And Say Anything: Part III

Got an afternoon off from therapy because of extreme winter weather (heavy snowfall). In Dutch we have a beautiful word for this, 'ijsvrij' (ice free). I'm wondering whether there is a word for it in English.

Re: Come on In If You're Online And Say Anything: Part III

Somehow I have the feeling that in the US they give less snow days than in this country. Here as soon as there is snow of any significance (more than a centimeter) public transport jams, people aren't able to go on the road anymore and institutions close their doors. We're really bad at dealing with non-standard weather conditions.

haha, definitely. I remember when you asked me last year about the snow and it snowed SO much last year it was a nightmare, after I glibly said "it was rarely a problem and it's warm in the winter" ha!

Very prepared giant plow-wise and all, but the main roads and hospital routes are first. If there is no let up on the snow, the plows just keep on and on with the main roads.

As it builds up, they plow it into the middle of the streets and you can't even see over it. They never plow any of the side streets or the neighbourhoods and that was how I would just let it rip all the way to the top of LOL's driveway. If I even slowed to give right of way to the cross streets I was stuck.

Hardly ever any snow days here. Ever. The buses have studded tires. When the streets get full they plow to the center and fill dump trucks. Getting high centered in it is a drag but there is always some great guy(s) that push or pull you out while cruising by. Well, most of the time.

When I lived up North, we would have white out conditions and they still wouldn't call it a snow day. Here in the south, we get a few snowflakes and the whole city shuts down.

As part of its post-Black Friday sales, Amazon’s day of deals on photography stuff was well and truly amazing. If only I had the coin laying around.

Cheers,

This is a very large country, so it depends on where one lives.

Places where they're used to lots of snow have snow plows and snow days are
pretty rare.

Places where they are so suprised by snow and have no way to deal with it
don't have snow days very often, because it doesn't snow very often, but when
it does snow it's a snow day and everything stops.

Here in the middle of the country we tend to get more ice days than snow days.
When it snows the snow plows go to work and so does everyone else.
The bus routes for school are delayed by one or two hours.

But when there's an ice storm, that brings down power lines, or makes tree
branches fall on power lines, so more places are likely to be shut down.
