The Waiting Place ...

You may find this silly but I'm up late watching movies and a Dr Suess book was quoted ... There's something about the dreams when you're younger and the reality we face later ... I related ...

Hope you all enjoy this little tid-bit ...

"Oh! The Places you'll go!" Dr Suess

"OH!
THE PLACES YOU’LL GO!
You’ll be on your way up!
You’ll be seeing great sights!
You’ll join the high fliers
who soar to high heights.
You won’t lag behind, because you’ll have the speed.
You’ll pass the whole gang and you’ll soon take the lead.
Wherever you fly, you’ll be the best of the best.
Wherever you go, you will top all the rest.
Except when you don’t
Because, sometimes, you won’t.
I’m sorry to say so
but, sadly, it’s true
and hang-ups
can happen to you.
You can get all hung up
in a prickle-ly perch.
And your gang will fly on.
You’ll be left in a Lurch.
You’ll come down from the Lurch
with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then,
that you’ll be in a Slump.
And when you’re in a Slump,
you’re not in for much fun.
Un-slumping yourself
is not easily done.
You will come to a place where the streets are not marked.
Some windows are lighted. But mostly they’re darked.
A place you could sprain both you elbow and chin!
Do you dare to stay out? Do you dare to go in?
How much can you lose? How much can you win?
And IF you go in, should you turn left or right…
or right-and-three-quarters? Or, maybe, not quite?
Or go around back and sneak in from behind?
Simple it’s not, I’m afraid you will find,
for a mind-maker-upper to make up his mind.
You can get so confused
that you’ll start in to race
down long wiggled roads at a break-necking pace
and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space,
headed, I fear, toward a most useless place.
The Waiting Place…
…for people just waiting.
Waiting for a train to go
or a bus to come, or a plane to go
or the mail to come, or the rain to go
or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow
or waiting around for a Yes or a No
or waiting for their hair to grow.
Everyone is just waiting.
Waiting for the fish to bite
or waiting for wind to fly a kite
or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil, or a Better Break
or a sting of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.
Everyone is just waiting."

~It goes on ... I'm going out and buying this book tomorrow

Re: The Waiting Place ...

Very good post. I really liked, and related to, the poem. Well, all except spraining your chin, I got distracted by that and wondered how it would be possible, lol. As he said, hang-ups can happen to you, and I got hung-up on that thought. Oh well, I got past it and it sounds so very true for many of us.

Somebody else on here has a Dr. Suess quote in their sig that my wife really liked and copied. I'll try to find out what it was later, as I can't remember.

Thanks for sharing that. I'll have to see how far that book goes myself.

Ahhh YES! Mecmr ... I've always loved that quote ... 'those who matter don't mind ...' BUT I never knew it was the Suesster.

Thank you

LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dare to go in...left..or right...oh my!!!!!

But to my discretion....I have to say..."ARE YOU MY MOTHER"!

My most favorite of them all!

These books, stand tall next to my prized Anatomy books, and yet make more of a statement to those who enter, than the cure for a disease.
DR. SEUSS.....now he's the man!

I love it! He's really a philosopher. I like how he superimposes ridiculous things with more poignant serious things:

or a sting of pearls, or a pair of pants
or a wig with curls, or Another Chance.

It's so true- I've been in the waiting place too long. But I'm leaving town soon, I'm just gathering my things.

Thank~you, Browneyes326, for the memories of reading those childhood classics.
"Cat and the Hat, Sam I Am, and Horton was a Who" were among my favorites~ and who can ever forget How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I hope parents realize how important it is to share these Dr.Suess stories with their children. what can be more fun than sharing and reading to a child and creating memories they'll cherish forever!

Funny I was just thinking with the holidays right around the corner, how much I LOVE How the Grinch Stole Christmas ... I actually wanted to watch the movie tonight but couldn't find it ... fascinated with Whoville as a kid ... guess I still am

Ah~h~h, Those wonderful favorite childhood Christmas specials like:

A Charlie Brown Christmas,
The Little Drummer Boy,
Rudolph the Red~Nose Reindeer,
Santa Claus is Coming To Town,
Frosty the Snowman,
The Kris Kringle Story,
The Baby New {Y}Ears,

I am so glad Children today get to enjoy these endearing specials as they are so much a part of the magic of the Holiday season. Heartwarming to know some traditions do live on but oh if we could only be a kid again!
