Question Do I have adhd?

I haven’t been diagnosed with adhd but I have this thing where whenever I am doing pretty much anything I will start tapping my foot or feet in rhythm and start breathing in rhythm or In song without noticing it. Just Emir lier today i was called out by my brother to breathing to the tune of “Mary had a little lamb”. I have also been called out for breathing in rhythm, for example: “inhale”...”inhale”...”exhale”...”exhale”. repeat, and I will to this really fast. Is this a sign of adhd? Or maybe something else?

Re: Do I have adhd?

Hi offroadgeek, and welcome to ADDF!

This isn't a phenomenon specifically associated with ADHD, as far as I'm aware, though generic foot-tapping and other movements can sometimes be related to restlessness/hyperactivity. Do you have any history of other ADHD symptoms, or were you diagnosed/labeled with any kind of difficulties as a kid?

I've heard people with tic disorders/Tourette's (which sometimes "travels with" ADHD) occasionally describe "breathing tics" similar to what you describe. How controllable is it? Do you feel uncomfortable if you try hard not to breathe in rhythm/with the beat of music, like you just have to do it? Do you have any family history of tics?

...But it may also just be a subconscious habit you've developed, and not related to any kind of disorder. If it's not interfering with getting enough oxygen, and it's not distracting you (even if your brother notices!), and you're not experiencing other symptoms that cause disruption or problems in your daily life, then it's probably nothing to worry about.

Again, welcome!
