Body aches often.. Need relief!

Hi there, I am a recently diagnosed patient with ADHD although I have been feeling this way since my early 20's, if not sooner. I have experienced such a different side of myself (in a good way) that I have never seen before. I have been taking adderall 20mg for 3 months now. Even though this medicine helps me, I get body aches! Not every single day, but more than I want to experience. I am hurting at this very moment! It feels like I just got into a fight. My thighs are sore, my back hurts and right now I am having pain in the muscle on my right side. I have been reading around on this site and I am not alone, but I haven't been able to find a solution!

I take ibuprofen OTC but I do not want to overtake that med and mess up my kidneys any further; besides, it doesn't work that well anymore. I love to take baths when I experience harsh pain from adderall and it helps, but I cant jump in the tub every time I hurt!!! What do ya'll do for the body/muscle aches that I could take or do daily? I thought it might be that the mgs are too much so i started to only take half a pill and that doesn't work either. Any solutions will help!! Thank you! hope everyone is having a good day.

Re: Body aches often.. Need relief!

I have never heard anyone discuss body aches and ADHD.

I'd tell my doctor about this ... could be something completely unrelated to the medication ... could be another condition.

Describe your symptoms to your doctor ... of course, the doc is gonna ask if you have changed your physical activity lately ... But assuming you haven't ... I think it's important to tell this to a doctor and not just assume this is a ADHD medication side effect.

Re: Body aches often.. Need relief!

As ToneTone said, this isn't known to be a common side effect, so you might want to let your doc know about this.

Some random ideas that come to mind...perhaps the meds are increasing your anxiety and body tension, which leads to sore muscles? Have you tried lowering the dose? Have you tried stopping the meds for a day or two?

Also, stimulant meds can affect hydration/electrolytes, sleep, appetite, etc. How are you doing in those regards?

Some tips

Electrolytes- bone broth or gastolyte can help
Use some of the pink salt on your food
Stretch
See a chiro in case of structural issues
Consider going low carb. Blood sugar variations can have an impact on pain
Epson salt baths
Reduce caffeine and other stims
Get the heart rate up for 30 mins of intense exercise
