What is the testing for?

I just saw Dr. Feldman, a psychiatrist in mid/downtown Toronto who specializes in adult ADHD, and he assessed that I have ADHD. OHIP covered the consultation and my dad's drug plan covered the medication (140 for 42 10mg tablets!). You need a referral from a MD, and the wait is about a month. His office is just above the St. Claire E TTC subway station. Even though I drive, I will take the subway next time. My car alarm kept going off and the pager remote was annoying us.

Hi, I just found this forum today. It was really heartbreaking when I finally realized what was wrong with me over the past 33 years of my life, and why my life turned out the way it did.

I'm wondering which is the best place in Toronto for Adult ADHD assessments right now? I live in Markham but have a car. In addition to the best/most accurate/thorough assessment, I would like to have my appointment soon and preferably not have to pay out of pocket $1000-$2000.

I actually got treated at the ACE clinics in Toronto (www.aceclinics.com) and found their program extremely effective. I successfuly completed the ADHD rogram and I am now doing their peak performance program. They do neurofeedback together with neuro-cognitive training. This apparantly seem to be a lot more effective compared to neurofeedback only.
I found their assessment process reasonable ($295) which attracted me in the first place and their treatment programs was significantly cheaper compared to any neurofeedback clinic. This at least was the case 6 months ago.

I noticed some mentioning of the clinic closed till october??? I dont think so - they are very opened regularly.

I’ve gone back to finish my undergrad, and am having a really hard time finding a way to get a learning assessment for ADHD covered. The problem is that I moved here from Calgary last September to start university here in Toronto, and as such, received student funding from Alberta.fficeffice" />>>
This meant that I didn’t qualify for an OSAP loan last year, and therefore couldn’t get the learning assessment covered on the sliding scale fee. I would have had to pay 1800 to 2200, which I didn’t have. >>
The medical treatment I received for my ADHD was not enough to allow me to do well in school, and I had to defer three of my exams. This semester, I’m not in school, as I still haven’t managed to get into a specialist, and still only receive enough medication from my doctor to give me coverage for about 7 to 8 hours a day. >>
So it’s a catch-22 situation I face now. I can’t get the learning assessment covered unless I’m in school, but I can’t go to school until I’ve had an assessment of some sort that would allow me to get appropriate treatment for my ADHD from a psychiatrist. >>
When I explained the situation to my new learning disability counsellor at my school, she told me that she was in charge of the initial portion of the learning assessments. She is having me fill out the Queens Learning Assessment package, and is putting the through the intial portion. I can pick up from there when I’m able to pay for the psychological testing which makes up the second part. >>
Has anyone heard of a way to get this covered if they don’t qualify for OSAP funding? >>

He specializes in teens and young adults, I was referred through my school (York University) after being diagnosed with ADHD. His age limit on new patients is 26. I had about a 1.5 month wait until I saw him the first time, which wasn't too bad considering how long others have waited. Give him a try if someone is looking for a specialist and are in that age range.

Has anybody seen Dr. Kenny Handelman in Oakville? I saw him in a CADDAC video. He seems to have a lot of optional fees.

When I lived in Toronto I was being seen by Dr. Lancy Levy, 416-489-0180, who specializes in ADHD and obesity. At that time I had only been diagnosed with OCD. He referred me to John Flemming, psychologist, who diagnosed me with ADHD (non-OHIP cost= $450.00). Dr. Levy is a good psychiatrist, has no nonsense methods, is supportive but, understandably, expects one to put in the required effort. His specialty is in weight loss, though.

I now live in London, Ontario. I was seeing a very good psychologist but cannot afford the fees. I am looking for a psychiatrist (covered by OHIP) who specializes in adult ADHD for those who have been diagnosed later in life. I was diagnosed at age 52 and it has been, and still is, a struggle. I have yet to attend the local OCD/ADHD group meetings to find a psychiatrist. My family physician (still in Toronto) will provide me with a referral if I can provide the name of a psychiatrist.

DOES ANYBODY KNOW OF A PSYCHIATRIST IN LONDON WHO SPECIALIZES IN ADHD FOR ADULTS OVER 50?????

How many neurofeedback EEG sessions did you have? Were the neuro-cognitive programs called SharperBrain that cost $1,150 - $4,500? How much total can I expect to spend? I'm considering neurofeedback for my ADHD child at The ADD Centre and the total cost would be around $6K for 40 sessions.
