Re: sometimes I wonder why I'm "ADHD"...

sarah,

Well said. Your comments reminded me of the old adage, "Good therapist's

are born, not educated."

There's also truth in the reality that "there's no correlation between advanced

degree and competency."

Because Psychiatry and Psychology are "inexact" sciences, it is critical that

all practitioners have read (and understand) the published, accepted

standards of practice for the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD. I wish that

were the norm, but I know it's not.

tc

Robert

This ones a head scratcher

There are a lot personality disorders in adhd than the general population. But is that what you’re saying.

You seem like maybe you just learned about pds so now you see them everywhere

And it’s good you’re trying to learned emotional intelligence

The good news is pds are considered an axis 1 now like adhd so these weird views of them won’t be around long. Unless they changed it back

Pds are likely just a more thorough interpersonal look at a development disorder that has had some life get in the way

Re: sometimes I wonder why I'm "ADHD"...

When I first started in my (now former) profession, it seems (in hindsight) that

life was a lot simpler; "diagnostically" at least. However, over time things

changed dramatically, to the point where finding comorbid conditions became

the norm.

All I can add at this point is that the presence of other problems, doesn't serve

to change the status of ADHD in any way. The goal is to make sure that the

principal condition is accurately diagnosed and treated, as part of a

comprehensive treatment plan, especially if that includes ADHD.
