Want to re-start meds after four years off - advice? (Australia)

Hi, I'm 33 in Sydney and was originally diagnosed about six years ago. I started talking dex and was on it for two years. It helped but there were other complications so I decided to go off it. I haven't seen a psych for my ADD since then.

I've just recently started studying again and believe that the meds would be helpful.

How hard do you think it would be to start up again? Would I have to go through another diagnosis process? I'm just aware that the government has some pretty strict rules around prescribing these meds and I really don't want to go through another long and drawn out process.

Not sure if this is the right forum for this post. But does anyone have any thoughts?

I am not all that familiar with AU but I would guess you will need some kind of reeval to get started again unless maybe if you are going back to the exact same doc from 4 years ago.

Hey Mate

I've been off meds for 5 years - was on dex for 13. I thought about whether I should go back on them to learn the job I'm in but I've managed to scrape by without it.

I'd recommend going back to the same doc given that it is schedule 8 meds. If you can't then see if you can get the letters sent from the specialist to your referring GP so you can take then to another psych.

Or you can request the information from your original pdoc if he's still practicing and if they wanna be difficult about it last resort would be an FOI request.

Thanks for all the tips. I've ordered my medical records from England and will see if my old doc is still working.
