Re: Erectile dysfunction?

I experienced it on Strattera 80 mg. My doctor decided to switch me off of the Strattera

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

Its an issue I recognize as well - traditionally, if this ever happened before, I thought that it was more related to anxiety levels than any medication, at least until I started using Ritalin, which I am on. I have started wondering more about this lately, however, as it has become more of an issue, and the confidence killer that it is in some ways counteracts the positive effects of my meds.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

I don't think it has anything to do with the meds. It's related to the brain and I'm thinking diet.
The second bit are guesses.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

yeah, men suffering from ADD might have erectile dysfunction problems. I have a friend whose husband is ADD... and I think a man with ADD is even worse than a woman.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

erectile dysfunction is surely connected with anxiety. my husband takes anti anxiety meds and his performance are much more better in bed!

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

Dexedrine does not cause erectile dysfunction for me, but there is a change in erectile response and bloodflow as compared and contrasted with not being medicated/drug washout of a month, based on my experience of both states.

Cheers,
Ian

assuming that it does it worse then yeah... it causes erectile dysfunction. if anything affects even a little bit the your erection then that's already considered erectile dysfunction.

Right...but one should assume nothing, and I said nothing about anything being worse.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

When I started taking Vyvanse last May while taking Klonopin after a few weeks sex was amazing for several months, it was never that good! I notice ever since I started tapering off Klonopin ED has been gradually getting worse (not size, but...) with each taper over the last 8 months. I had little to no side effects initially and months later I was still going strong. As of right now I'm going through withdrawal off the Klonopin and my sex drive is 100% percent gone, I feel like a boy again! If the Klonopin withdrawl did cause ED i would expect it to effect me more at first and lessen as I near the end of withdrawal. I'm starting to question if perhaps the Vyvanse is the cause and maybe the Klonopin help prevent ED since I've been on it 28 years with no history off ED...?

I am working my way up the dexedrine dose at the moment (5mg twice a day), where it stands it definitely causes ED (probably for the reasons outlined above, so thanks for that).

For my anxiety and depression I am due to start on sertraline (lustral over here, zoloft in the US). I have read that this can cause different kinds of sexual problems.

Is it likely that the negative sexual effects of all these meds will compound?

Or is there a realistic possibility that the sertraline will help me to relax enough to counter the negative effects of the dex?
I initially started on Sertaline and there are some sexual side effects that I noticed from that. Basically lowered my drive from once a day to once every 1-2 weeks (which wife prefers) and seems to make it considerably longer to um finish so that's a positive right? At least she thinks so. Before hand my libido was quite active, so hope that helps.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

I've found that the ED tends to become less of a problem as your body gets used to the medication. Some of the symptoms are strange. For about two months, whenever I had an orgasm, the orgasm would come first and the "deposit" would come late and slow. Not to get too graphic, but it would just sort of drip out and I felt like it never fully emptied. The shrinkage tends to go away a bit, and now I'm actually a bit harder after two months of taking Vyvanse daily.

I used to take breaks from medication, and I think this is actually the worst thing you can do. I felt it was important to give my body some time to just function normally, but it comes at the expense of a normal sex life. I've found that it's important to take your meds at the same time each day. When I stopped taking breaks, that's when the symptoms settled down.

Another suggestion is to make a point of getting it up each day while on the medication. I don't know why this works, although I have many theories. But, I think it could have to do with the anxiety associated with wondering whether it will work when you need it to. It could also simply be that increasing blood flow helps to keep things working down there. If you get it up by yourself, you'll know it's not a problem with the functioning.

Re: Erectile dysfunction?

This thread is something I have dealt with personally for the past 14+ years, and it amazes me how few doctors take the combination of add meds/ed seriously. It's not bad enough to deal with the add naysayers, but to also have doctors that believe my ed symptoms are 'in my head', only due to depression, etc.

I started adderall about 14 years ago, though originally went through trial periods of ritalin and a few other meds. Only adderall seemed to work positively. Sadly I was completely unaware of how it would negatively effect my sex life. At the time I was engaged, but the lack of performance (as well as other factors) had a huge impact on the relationship, which ultimately failed.

Like others here, I have major shrinkage, loss of sensation, and inability to perform. yes, meds like cialis and viagra help, but I really wonder what I'm putting my heart/body though with these different meds.

Interesting how my recent doctor reacted when I noted how adderall gives me ed. "Not that I've ever heard, in fact many men have better performance with it".....than a few minutes later she found evidence using google on her phone.....amazing, the ignorance that we all deal with, on many levels.

I'm 49 now. It's possible that I also have lower testosterone (though I was tested last year, and it came back normal), and I'm finding that the drama of dating, or just finding someone, is more trouble than it's worth. I wonder how much ed is part of that feeling. Haven't been on a date in two years, and three since I actually dated for an extended period (and yes, financial issues are also part of it). But that trade off.....think clearly with one head, or perform with the other. Pretty clear decision....
