Cool Hey Hey Im New Say Hi to Me!!

Hiiiiiii. I'm new here. My name is Kristy. I have been diagnosed with ADHD (primarily hyperactive impulsive type) According to the 6 subtypes of ADD I have Ring of Fire type. I am 19 years old. I have two brothers with innatentive type ADD and one brother with ADHD and bipolar disorder. My stepdad has ADD and so does my biological dad. I currently work with special ed kids a few hours per week. I have a dog which I take to the special ed classes to visit the kids. I am starting back to college either this fall or winter. I am going to double major in education/psychology. I hope to someday run an unconventional educational program for kids who have either ADD ADHD or emotional problems. There will be counseling and support groups (social functioning tips, like how to make friends) every morning as well as hourly excersice breaks. It would also include teaching in new and exciting ways and incorparating all the different learning styles into lessons therefore hopefully eliminating or lowering the amount of medications the students have to be on. I also plan on having a classroom pet such as a dog. This way the children always have a friend to tell all their secrets to. I've also seen that dogs have a calming effect on childrens behavior. Anyway, sorry my into is so long lol, thats all I have to say for now. I hope to find some other awesome ADDers to talk to. Bye4Now

P.S. By the way, how do I add my pic to the corner of my posts???

The picture is in "User CP" (near the top of your page) ---> "Edit Options" ---> the avatar stuff at the bottom of that page.

Welcome to the forums!

You and I share the same dream about schooling, LilMissADDitude, and we've obviously read the same book about ADD...

My whole family suffers from it too, except the ones who enjoy it.

Cheers and welcome to the family!

Just print out a little pic, cut it to size, lick it, stick it on the screen, and VOILA! you're an internet superstar!

Just kidding.

I like your comment about teaching kids about how to make friends- I'd like to add a thought- teaching them how to KEEP friends could be arguably even more valuable... in California's shallow culture, people tend to drift apart over time...

I've found that everyone wants to be liked, so if you just do that, they'll like you back.

Welcome!

joanrdtobe will become famous soon enough
LilMiss: I also want to say welcome to the forums....and nice you got diagnosed at such a nice young age...and are starting college already diagnosed.....I'll bet you will do great there...and a major in education/psychology sounds perfect for what you want to do.......

The hourly exercise breaks, as part of the plans for your future classroom curriculums sounds wonderful -- as does having a dog as a classroom pet....very creative....

Okay, please keep posting as I'm sure as you can see, you will get lots of support here
