Re: The what's bothering you RIGHT NOW thread Part III

Suddenly feeling very nostalgic about the place I lived in before the uk. Where I spent a lot of my formative years. More than the place it's the time I miss. It wasn't pure joy but it was simpler. Not by much but I was younger and more hopeful. And there were moments of pure joy. Plenty of them. I wish I could go back there.

Argggh...I've reached my PM limit again. It's time to clean out messages.

I am such a hoarder with those things.

You know you can download them all in one fell swoop as a text file, so you never actually have to get rid of them, right?

Re: The what's bothering you RIGHT NOW thread Part III

Asked someone on a date, but turns out she is moving to a city farther away in two days. Knew she was moving soon, but I didn't know that it would be that soon. I feel good about having taken the risk to ask her though.

Re: The what's bothering you RIGHT NOW thread Part III

Feeling so defeated. My councillor really pointed out some things I did wrong in asking that girl for a date. I really thought I was on the right track and then apparently I'm not.

Yeah, but I think the goal is just impossible to reach. My councillor says I should date healthy women and not go to women that I know from my time in addiction. My life has been stagnant for over ten years and I have a lot of emotional baggage I'm carrying with me. Which healthy woman would even be interested in someone like me?

Even if I get my life more or less in order I will still have the mental health issues. I have had those issues for as long as I can remember, even when I was a little kid. So these are just a part of me that is never going away. Some people are basically whole, but become unhealthy through life events and addiction. In my case there is just no healthy me, never has been.

Well, you know this as well as anybody but if you approach dating with a defeatist attitude then healthy women will pick that up. You have a lot of good, redeeming qualities, too, and everyone has their strengths and weaknesses, and that includes women you don't know from your addiction history. Is your councillor also your therapist and if so have you talked about these issues with him?

Yeah she is. I have expressed this. But if it's not healthy for me to repeatedly fall in love with broken women, it can't be healthy for women to fall in love with broken men, is it? So that's a paradox. I am a broken man and therefore I seek out broken women. In order to act healthy I have to go for healthy women. But healthy women don't go for broken men.

The only alternative is abstinence, but since there is no healthy me that would mean lifelong celibacy. They might as well just shoot me right now.

That's their decision to make, not yours. And I don't think you're broken, anymore than all of us are broken in some way.

No. I'm way more f-d up than 95% of my peers since I have been a little child.
