So I often find myself asking myself "Why?.. Why do I play these awful things?".

It's taken me all this time to finally figure out why I think I play them. I think it comes down to social anxiety and when i'm out codes and surrounded by other people, playing a fruit machine allows me to avoid interacting with anybody else around me. I can just kind of "switch off" and nobody will notice me in the pub or the club etc....

Has anybody else here had experiences with gambling addictions? What kind of steps did you take in order to over come this addiction? Or are you still suffering from heavy addiction?

Well, I'm a recovering gambling addict and have been clean for 4 months now. It also came to a head for me during that time which is what motivated me to go to GA and contact stepchange.

I'm not as deep, but pay about 150 a month and have cleared off a chunk up to now

I could only get credit from the payday loan companies so racked it all up that way. About 12 of them I think all in all... They were all happy to accept the DMP These days companies are more focused on helping people in debt and work WITH them, so you'll probably encounter little resistance. The banks are usually the funny !!!!!!s in my past experience.

I tell you what though but if you don't address the gambling addiction then you will be back in the same boat further down the line. That's the crux of it lad... The financial problem is not the real issue you have here!

Go onto the GA website (they have a chat room) and find your local meet Go there and see what they say, share your story and see whether you can make sense of any of the similar experiences.

Good luck in beating the addiction and I genuinely implore you to put more focus on this over the debt you have....
