article: when you're autistic abuse is considered love

I thought this was a compelling read and might be of interest: https://www.printfriendly.com/p/g/XMp2v6

If that doesn't work, because I'm on phone, google the establishment when you're autistic abuse is considered love

It's basically a critique of how children with autism are exploited by parents who write about dealing with them. That's really boiled down but it's an interesting read.

Thanks for the article, very much so. I want to say something, but I am upset and it would not behoove me to post right now.

Thanks,
Ian

Ditto. Mixed feelings here as a parent/grandparent and as a very misunderstood
child with undiagnosed autism and adhd.

Re: article: when you're autistic abuse is considered love

this is a tough subject for me

i see the authors point and dragging a kid kicking and screaming is definitely bad, and i do feel there is exploitation and over use of pseudoscience

but i also feel i sometimes see very high functioning "aspies" and autistic people speaking for low functioning ones

while sure their may be similarities and they both can be called autism mild aspergers and low functioning classic autism appear to be completely different animals

and the taking offense to a cure thing...i wouldnt be offended if someone could cure ADHD even though i DO feel it played a huge role in shaping me

so why do these high functioning authors assume low functioning / highly disabled kids would not want to be cured?
