Greg -- Charlotte, NC

Hi -- just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Greg and I'm 32. I haven't been diagnosed with ADD yet because I'm waiting for my appointment with the specialist. I'm not easily convinced of things but, after research, I'm now convinced that I have ADD. If the specialist doesn't agree, then I obviously have other problems. I've been reading posts here and wanted to join because I can relate to just about everything everyone here says.
A year or so ago my girlfriend told me she thought I had ADD but I dismissed it. I always thought it was just the way I was and that I couldn't have anything "wrong" with me. However, a few weeks ago I saw the commercial on TV about the online ADD test and decided to take it just to see what happened. It said I should see my doctor. Before I made an appointment, I decided to research ADD and take a few more online tests. Every test I took, including the lengthy ones from the Amen Clinic (ADD Inattentive type -- highly probable), told me I should seek a medical diagnosis.
As for the info I found on ADD, I couldn't believe what I was reading. It was like they made up the criteria/traits based entirely on me. I would read something and say to myself "that's me -- wait, that's me too -- and that -- and that" and so on. I never put all of those things together but it all makes sense now (especially since many things seem to have gotten a lot worse over the past couple of years). I even started to feel relieved by what I was finding out -- that it's NOT normal and CAN be treated. I just hope the specialist comes to the same conclusion so that I can be helped. It would be nice to actually be able to concentrate on ONE thing for once in my life (besides occasionally hyperfocusing on things).
Anyway, I'm rambling. I hope what I've written was understandable. Now that I see a little light at the end of the tunnel, I feel the need to tell someone about everything I've been experiencing my entire life.
Thanks for listening.

Welcome Greg to the ADDforums

Here you will find abundant information, NON judgmental people, a place to relax learn and maybe even call home. Everybody's view of their ADD is quite possibly, a little bit different than the next persons, but the symptoms all seam to be similar. I myself don't feel that I have ADD. I am ADD, Not Attention Deficit Disorder as the linear thinking world describes, it but by my definition, I AM ADD ADDaptable Directed and Determined.

To end my post I will say this. You didn't just get the ADD. It is not a disease. You have been this way all your life, and now you have a name (given to it by the Linear thinking part of society) to associate with the way you feel.

There is a link on the bottom of this post that will direct you to a vast amount of information and knowledge and will introduce you to the homepages of two of the wonderful people who have devoted a lot of time and effort to making this place a place to call home.

Welcome to the ADD Forums, Greg. Good luck with the appointment, but keep this in mind: Diagnosing ADD is not an exact science. If you're unsatisfied with the answer you get from your first doctor, there is nothing wrong with getting a second opinion.

Best of luck, and welcome
